After Orson Scott Card, Stephen King ?

Maybe not the best sources on the web, Lying in the Gutter has this interesting bit of info in its column :

Quote:
KING MAKER - Added 10/26

Publishing News seem to have themselves an official scoop.

"STEPHEN KING IS writing a graphic novel for Marvel Comics. Illustrated by Jae Lee, well-known American illustrator of comic books, it will form the eighth volume in King's Dark Tower series, published by Simon & Schuster in the States and Hodder in the UK. Marvel is distributed worldwide by Diamond Book Distributors and publication is scheduled for next autumn."

Marvel are expected to confirm this news later in the week. We refer our honourable readers to the Lying In The Gutters from September 26th.

Now, that should be interesting. I can see the Dark Tower series working quite well in comic book form. If Jae Lee reverts back to his more wild pencilling technique (such as displayed in the "X-Cutioner's Song" or Image's Grifter years), I think the pairing would be a perfect match.

Do you think this penciling technique is still fashionable nowadays ?

I liked this but I'm not sure current comics readers enjoy it.

Going from what I have thumbed through in the stores, I would say the market is more open to diverse direction in comic art than it was during '90s when Jae Lee made his debute. A little before his time, the likes of Jim Lee, Dale Keown, Rob Liefeld, Erick Larson, Todd McFarlane, Sam Keith, and others helped usher in an era of styles that did not mime the style (at least in starting point) of Jack Kirby, which became convention for a few decades. Today, the art styles within both DC and Marvel are all over the place artistically speaking; hence, the market doesn't appear to have become more conservative.

From the Marvel website: http://www.marvel.com/publishing/sto...tory.htm?id=51

The art looks very cool, I must say. One to watch out for...
