Khichuri. A mixture of lentils and rice. With black butter on top. When it is pouring with rain and I've been soaked on the way home.

Re: Comfort Food...

Black butter? I have never heard of that before. Is it named for its taste or from the colour?

Re: Comfort Food...

It is sometimes called clarified butter I think. Which sounds very laboratory-like. It is just ordinary butter which has been heated until it bubbles, and the salt turns it black and it is traditionally used as a sauce with grilled fish. "Sole in black butter sauce."
It smells amazing. An antidote to any thunderstorm you could think of.

Yes I have heard of clarified butter before. Thank you for the explanation.

As long as it tastes as amazing as it smells, although I think it might take me a little getting used to the colour mainly!!

Re: Comfort Food...

Oh it melts into foods, leaving them looking caramelly.

Loverly.

Soup. I love soup. Tomato, and potatoe and leek especially.

Re: Comfort Food...

I think the ultimate comfort food is cheese. Can't beat it melted over anything. Delicious. Cheddar, Parmesan, Gorgonzola, pretty much all types.

Re: Comfort Food...

I usually get a real Vintage cheese with a very strong flavour. Wonderful with sliced ham in toasties or on crackers. I often grate some of it and mix with parmesan to put on top of a spaghettie bolognoise.

Mind you, I'm a bit like Alien up there, the Gorgonzola is particularly nice. It goes well with lots of dishes.

Re: Comfort Food...

Dinner was all right tonight- chicken kiev- so I'm not too hungry. I just feel sort of weird cos I'm stuck in my rom on my own, but as I need to get up early tomorrow to work it's no bad thing.

Re: Comfort Food...

Oh you lucky thing, Chicken Kiev. Have you tried the chicken breasts filled with prawns? Sounds strange but has a great taste.
