A New Film to Challenge LOR As many of you may or may not know, a new film called the chronicles of narnia is coming out this December (www.narniaresources.com) The previews make it seem like it is going to be very much like the LOR triology. Not the same plot, but the same kind and style of movie. Does anyone here think this film is going to be able to surplus and be better than LOR? Any thoughs on this film?

Re: A New Film to Challenge LOR I think it has the potential to be a massive hit, but it'll have to go a long long way to beat LOTR. What's encouraging is that WETA are doing the special effects. Considering they were the masterminds behind the effects for LOTR as well, I'm sure we're in for a treat. C.S.Lewis created a fantastic story, so I hope the film lives up to the book. I thought that nobody could ever pull off a film that would do justice to LOTR, but I think PJ did a fantastic job and the changes the team made were well conceived (apart from maybe bungling the Shelob scene). So, I have a little faith that the same can be done with the Narnia Chronicles too - fingers crossed.

Re: A New Film to Challenge LOR On a literature point of view, Narnia is for children, while LOTR is for adults. But both are equally endearing, and equally brilliant --- just on different levels. On the movie side, LOTR is the TITANIC of fantasy movies. But I'd chose Narnia over any or all the Harry Potter films any day and twice on Sunday.

Re: A New Film to Challenge LOR Narnia and LOTR? Your seriously trying to compare the two??? you cant really, they are two completely different films with different audience targets and styles LOTR was a HUGE event. A worldwide trilogy hit. Narnia was a more lighthearted and less..epic?...beacuase it was not meant to be. LOTR blew me away! Narnia was enchanting and I loved it Of course LOTR was a more sophisticated bit of filming, It had to be. Just as a bit of a rant, cos this has happened a few times to me- I'm sick of hearing people say something like- "oh it was just a crappy remake of LOTR" Its something completely different people! Same allegorical messages i grant you, but two different movies, two different books and i can assure you that as Narnia's director was setting up scenes he wasn't thinking "hmmmmm, now is that gonna be able able to compete with LOTR I wonder?" Liking one movie over the other is only natural. Implying that one is a take off of the other when the two are so clearly in different classes upsets me. OK, I feel better now ![]() PS - apparently both the director and the kids have already been signed on to do Prince Caspian..apparently

| The Enigma of Steel | Re: A New Film to Challenge LOR Judging by the lack of follow-up posts by the individual who started this post, I suspect an agenda. The name makes it kind of obvious. Lewis and Tolkien were friends and both sets of novel expound Christian principles even though Lewis is obvious and Tolkien was somewhat more subtle (although classic "good vs evil"). "Narnia" was a good movie but as was mentioned the story and the movie are for a different audience than Lord of the Rings. Classic "Good vs. Evil" movies follow Christian principles (and most other religions and moral codes) |
