Five Doctors Anybody remember the 5 Doctors TV special? The big let-down was that Tom Baker was very much left out of having an active part. However, the story itself seemed to managed to survive his otherwise iconic presence being absent. I only saw it when originally aired, but I would be surprised if I didn;t enjoy it now. Anybody seen it recently? If so, what did you think?

Re: Five Doctors And don't forget that William Hartnell wasn't in it either... Just some actor (can't remember his name) that was a lousy likeness...Wasn't there another special with 6 doctors?? And then there was the one with Patrick Troughton and Colin Baker... I seem to remember that the reason Tom Baker didn't appear, was because he told the BBC to "shove it"...

| Re: Five Doctors There was a three Doctors (with, erm, the original three doctors), the Patrick Troughton / Colin Baker one you refer to was the Two Doctors. The Five Doctors was ace. I liked the tomb at the end, where those seeking immortality would get that which they craved. Also the Raston Warrior Robot as already mentioned, The Master skipping around like a dandy talking about things being easy as pie and a lot of old companions looking a lot lot older. I think for the Tom Baker bits they used some of the footage for the then unreleased Shada to fill in some gaps. Hartnell was penciled in for it, but he didn't turn up for work. Apparently he had a particularly nasty case of being dead. I'd quite like to see a multiple Doctors story one day. Dunno if Ecclestone would be up for it, but it would be good to have McGann have a bit more of a run out and another nod to old Slyvester. I don't think Colin Baker would fit in through the TARDIS doors anymore. Quote:

Re: Five Doctors Hey yes Brian! that was on TV last week. To tell the truth I was very excited over Baker being part of the show again but like you was very much let down when he seemed to disappear from the plot. It was great to see the doctors that were involved together though. For me it was interesting, not to mention entertaining, to see how they all got along ![]()

Re: Five Doctors Hi! First message here. I remeber The Five Doctors well. Tom Baker didn't want to appear, despite his originally having a large active part in the script (which Peter Davidsons Doctor got most of). They did indeed use unused footage from Shada for that (now as a internet play on the BBC site). Would have been nice to see McGann more as someone else said, as having heard some of his audio adventures he came across ok.

Re: Five Doctors Remember seeing it when it first aired over here -- it was actually the first Davison story I saw -- and quite liked it. The replacement for William Hartnell was Richard Hurndull, who was the closest they could find and who had been a friend and colleague of Hartnell as well, as I recall. He didn't do too badly on capturing the tetchiness of Hartnell's characterization, nor the quirky humor the original Doctor had. My only complaint is that, when they recently re-released it on DVD special edition, they altered a few small things, including some more sophisticated special effects -- which is nice, but I rather miss the original; it had a different feel, overall. I'd like to see a disc with both available, rather than pay the price for each (they aren't cheap over here, by any means). I came into Doctor Who fairly late (was about 20 at the time), but I've been a great fan since -- not so much fannish activity, as just someone who loves the series and is interested in some of the odd trivia and backstory. Wish I could see the newer Doctors (the most recent I've been able to catch was Sylvester McCoy, and only one of those so far) -- but, perhaps, in Time (if you'll pardon the pun)....

Re: Five Doctors I really like The Five Doctors...Davison being "My" Doctor this was a big thing when I was growing up, so it was fantastic it being re-released not that long ago...My boy loved it as well...Which pleased me no-end!!...He's only five...Fantastic stuff... I'd like a "Doctors that are left" story...But I'm unlikely to get it I think!...

Re: Five Doctors I saw it when it was first released over here and I think at one time I had a Beta version tape of it but of course that tape is beyond watching years ago even it I still had a Beta machine which of course, I don't. A very close friend of mine (since deceased) turned me on to the Doctor and those old episode from the sixies and the seventies bring back a lot of memories for me. I'd love to be able to see them again.
