Re: Greatest Guitarist David Gilmour is up there for me. On a personal level I suppose John Squire (Stone Roses) Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh) Adam Jones (Tool) J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) Rory Gallagher (Solo) Muddy Waters (Solo) But Clapton is a great call too.

Re: Greatest Guitarist Didn't he have a brain tumour? I've got the Cause of Death (Obituary) and the Spiritual Healing (Death) albums he played on. I've shamelessly done air guitar in my bedroom to 'Body Bags' before now too. Never saw either band live.

Re: Greatest Guitarist Best ever guitarist? That is a difficult question, for sure. Brian May, Slash, Jimmy Page and Clapton are greats. Peter Green played with real emotion. David Gilmour’s soaring solos are always my favourite. For sheer technique though, what about Bert Jansch? But there is a guy at my work who is probably better than any of them. Self taught too.
