Mutants are Human Beings, either genetically altered from the norm or born with abilities above and beyond a normal human.
A Smurf is a Smurf . . . not a human being, smurfette was created by Gargamell to attempt to infiltrate and kill the smurfs till she was won over I believe.
(also smurfs are cartoons and mutants are real, I was talking to one in the pub last night, I swear to god (erm me) this guys eyes were going in seperate directions like a chameleon!! Then vomited on his chips and began eating them like a fly!! Before sliding to the floor and crawing and talking/moaning in an alien language, like a slug leaving a golden trail behind him!! So they must exsist!!)
