Neil Gaiman talks about Anansi Boys

There's a new interview with Neil Gaiman in Three Monkeys Online
where he talks about his upcoming novel Anansi Boys. It's not exactly a sequel to American Gods, though it does have connections (The Deceased Mr Nancy primarily).

It's available free online at Neil Gaiman - Anansi Boys interview

Hope it's of interest.

This book looks interesting, Im tempted to get it. Just waiting to read more of Gaiman's works before committing to stay buying his books. I did read one a couple of years back but it was too young for me.

Which was that, Rune, can you remember? I've loved everything of his I read (though Coraline was a touch strange...). In fact, Stardust is one of my all-time favourite novels. Thusly am looking quite forward to Anansi Boys.

Re: Neil Gaiman talks about Anansi Boys

I didn't enjoy Stardust that much suprisingly....I mean he's one of my top three authors also. I did really enjoy American Gods and Good Omens though......Coraline was a bit wierd but thats Gaiman for you. Though I did get angry when I saw this:

It was on Imdb.com a few weeks back.

Gilliam Stunned by Lack of Interest in Depp/Williams Film
Movie maverick Terry Gilliam is amazed that a planned movie starring Johnny Depp and Robin Williams is still on the shelf - because American investors can't raise $15 million. The former Monty Python member was thrilled when international money men offered him $45 million to make the film Good Omens with Depp as a demon and Williams as an angel. But he was shocked to discover that Americans didn't have the same sort of faith in the project, and they failed to raise the extra cash he needed to start work on the project - an adaptation of fantasy writers Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's book. Gilliam tells US magazine Entertainment Weekly, "I couldn't get 15 with Johnny and Robin... These two guys, who would have been brilliant were not worth $15 million in America. That was the moment where I went, 'I don't understand this game. I don't understand this town (Hollywood). I don't understand any of the rules. All I know is I don't like it.'" Gilliam's last project with Depp, the ill-fated Quixote, became one of the biggest movie-making disasters in history when illness and storm-wrecked sets prompted financiers of the film to pull the plug as costs soared. The film, which was never completed, was turned into hit disaster documentary Lost in La Mancha. Gilliam hopes to complete his Don Quixote epic with Depp next year.

Do you even realize how good that movie would have been.

It was Coraline that I read, and I did also find it a little strange

Mr Nancy's history ? A must read.
Not the main fan of Neil Gaiman (some I liked, some I didn't) but American gods was based on a pretty good idea, it may worth the interested. And I always loved to read about African and/or Vodoun gods interacting with regular American way of life.

Re: Neil Gaiman talks about Anansi Boys

I'm reading Coraline again as my night time reading. One of the reasons why i did like it when i read it first time round was because of its strangeness

I'll be buying this when it comes out in paperback

I don't know, that genre has been done to death....

Rune, you should try Stardust or Neverwhere. Two great novels. I liked American Gods, but for me these two represent his best work.

Johnny Depp as Crawley? That would have been an awesome film

Re: Neil Gaiman talks about Anansi Boys

The film is still in development and seems to have some support. Over at hsx.com the stock has moved up in the past year. I'd pay to see it. I love Terry Gilliam, Johnny Depp and Robin Williams and the book itself.

The book was amazing, and Depp and Williams are two of my favourite actors. I would love to see this movie done...I laughed while reading the book, can you imagine the movie!

Nothing about a Gillimam, Depp, Williams, Good Omens combination sounds bad.

It does if you're a US invester, who has to take account of unwelcome concerns from powerful lobby groups and negative publicity that even touching upon religion can bring.

Point taken, and agreed. Thus I amend my statement:Nothing about a Gilliam, Depp, Williams, Good Omens combination sounds bad to anyone who doesn't have to be concerned with segments of the population blessed with more time than they merit.
