While you may be new (yet swarthy) I think you missed an important point when it comes to Mance.

He was a politician, not a warrior.

And all cred given to Mance for his skills politico, if he was a fighter.....we would have never of heard of the best warriors of the Wildings.

They would have been dead, not living in his tent.
