Re: Peter and the Starcatchers

I read about it when the book first came out, in a feature article about Dave Barry and his latest book and so on and so forth. They asked him, in passing, whether he had permission from the Barrie estate, and he blithely admitted that he hadn't even tried. Nothing about thinking the copyright had expired here; just that he hadn't bothered to ask. The person who interviewed him didn't pursue the matter, so they didn't seem to think it was a big deal either.

I think that was one of the things that got on my nerves -- the lack of respect for intellectual property. Combined, of course, with the fact that I happened to know who were the heirs to his literary estate and something about the history of that hospital.

Thanks for the link, BookStop. I hadn't heard anything about lawyers and lawsuits. It's frustrating to think the hospital might not have the funds to actually sue the authors. But maybe a little bad publicity might shame them into handing over some of their profits.
