Hello everyone

I'm an enthusiastic fan of fantasy and children's literature from Finland and found out about this forum by accident - very nice to be here!
I've been reading fantasy since 1984, played lots of rpg's for years and after playing stopped I started writing stories. My first fantasy book was published last year and next one is just about ready.
I consider myself as quite a hermit, since I spend most of my free time writing or playing with my daughter.
But I hope to be here as much as possible

Re: Hello everyone

I do believe you qualify as our first Finnish Hermit (as opposed to finished hermit)

Glad to see another author onboard though. What's the title of your book and is it available in English format? (my Finnish is a little rusty... )

There's a few fellow authors lurking around too, so I'm sure they'll make themselves known.

Do you have any favourite authors/influences on your own work?

oh - and welcome to the Chronicles Network

Hi Auer.

Congrats on getting your first book published. Is fantasy popular in Finland?

Re: Hello everyone

Great! I'm the first Finnish Hermit here... Thanks for welcoming!
My book's title is something like "Kin to Dark Dragons" but unfortunately it's not available in English format (yet) - I'm having these strange day-dreams that maybe some day... who knows.
I've enjoyed books from Tolkien (of course), Kenneth C Flint, Bernard Cornwell, Robert Holdstock and lots of others but perhaps scandinavian and finnish mythology has still the greatest influence in my writing.
Hope to meet those "lurking" authors too... and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time here

Re: Hello everyone

Thank you very much - it was not a very easy thing to get a fantasy book published here. Fantasy is not very popular in Finland - it still has too few readers (bad news for us authors) and most of the books are still read in english here. But those who read fantasy are very enthusiastic about it and the popularity has grown in a few years, thanks to Harry Potter and Lord of the rings.
I hope this place is addictive... heh.

That's a first. Most of the time newbies are scared off by the warning.

Hey Leto I think we need another straight jacket over here.

On a serious note... Harry Potter open a lot of doors for many authors especially those who have been writing for years. I should dig up some research on that subject and post it. *signs* more work to do...

Hi Auer,
I think you've chosen very well, as concerns what influenced your writing. After all, Tolkien himself was under great influence of the Kalewala when he created the mythology for his world .
Anyway, welcome to the forums and enjoy your time here. I'm a newbie myself, but it's an interesting and relatively safe place (beware Gollum's basement, though!!! )

Heya and welcome!
There's nothing wrong with being a hermit, especially if it's for those reasons!
