| Who is the giant? In AGOT Bran had a prophethic dream: "He saw his father pleading with the king, his face etched with grief. He saw Sansa crying herself to sleep at night, and he saw Arya watching in silence and holding her secrets hard in her heart. There were shadows all around them. One shadow was as dark as ash, with the terrible face of a hound. Another was armored like the sun, golden and beautiful. Over them both loomed a giant in armor made of stone, but when he opened his visor, there was nothing inside but darkness and thick black blood." I think the first shadow is the Hound, the second shadow-Jaime and the third I have no idea. I saw some opinions that is the Mountain,Gregor Clegane, but I don't think so. The Hound and Jaime are protectors of both girls, but the Mountain had nothing to do with Sansa and Arya, he is almost dead. May be the giant in stone armor is not a human, but soething else? What do you think? |

| Re: Who is the giant? I still think the third shadow is Gregor Clegane. He's still on Arya's "hit-list" remember, and the thick black blood could refer to the fact he'll survive the Red Viper's poison and become even more monstrous to behold. |

Although it would allow for a confrontation of the Clegane brothers which would be very entertaining.

| Re: Who is the giant? Yeah - Gregor's got to die by his brother's hand, hasn't he? Anything else would be outrageously unfair.....and totally in keeping with GRRM's writing twists so far! ![]() |

| Re: Who is the giant? First thought was also Gregor - he may not be an immediate presence on Arya, but he was a general shadow over King's Landing and a lot of what was involved there - I seem to recall Ned sending out for his arrest was something of a spark to the powder keg there. Second thought would be Lord Tywin for his overall influence, but the description seems more evocative of Gregor. |

The Mountain did have some things to do with Sansa. I can't remember the bet that she made with Joffrey before the duel with Prince Oberyn, but it was something that directly affected her life if the Prince won. And Arya was in the Mountain's clutches for a while as well, unbeknownst to him.

| Re: Who is the giant? It has to be Gregor. No one else can be that huge, to over look Jaime and the Hound. Considering that Gregor's wounds turn black and Bran's dream does have a "guy" that is dark and has black blood. I wonder how Gregor is going to factor into it. I mean Gregor is on his death bed and he is suppost be beheaded, may be. |

| Re: Who is the giant? Or it could be Hodor. Reason I think that Hodor could be the Giant in Stone, but Bran is controlling him, the reason nothing is there is because well, there isnt much to Hodor in the first place, which could be meaning the darkness as Bran had taken over his brain or what little brain he has. I think there is more too that dream as well. I think that the whole vision had to do with the Gods, not the people. Especially the line that says with the terrible face of a hound I dont think that this is a direct reference to the Hound as that is to obvious for Martin. I think the shadows watching were some sort of Gods, not actual people e.g. Golden and Beautiful - Lord of the Light? I think Hodor was sent from the Gods to help Bran, seems like the one God is dark, the other, Light and in the middle, Stone, giant...Hodor aka Bran. Also there has to be way more to Hodor than we see, just like patches (Patches predicted the Red Wedding and everyone thought him an idiot) Anyway this was my first post, i have only read the books once and I am waiting to get them back from a friend for re-read. I just like making up theories, I could be totally off the mark. |

| Re: Who is the giant? Welcome to the Chronicles Network, Miss Drogon!!! Excellent theory - and it could very well be closer to the target. I, too, was thinking that the giant was Gregor until I read your post. You pointed out one thing that really stood out for me - some of the references are way too obvious for GRRM. I think he may definitely be trying to mislead us here, and your guess of Hodor is as good (or better) than any. |

| Re: Who is the giant? I think that you might be reading too much into it, Miss Drogon. While it is rather obvious, you have to remember that this was simply the very first glimpse of Bran's possible powers using his third eye. So there really could be no more to it than three knights who were, at the time, threats to those who he is linked to by blood and wolves. |

| Re: Who is the giant? I dont think so. I mean, I find it hard to get past the strong connection Bran has with the Gods. They play a huge role we just arent seeing yet (the Gods that is). I still think it is Gods who are the shadows, not the Hound and Gregor. I cant buy that theory. Plus I believe the Gods sent Bran the dreams to begin with. |

| Re: Who is the giant? Hiya Miss Drogon! Im a big lover of theories! So keep em coming! Right or wrong they are always fun to discuss! Everyone knows anyway that everything that has happened since Bran fell from the tower is just a dream he is having while in a coma at Winterfell. ![]() |

| Re: Who is the giant? Miss Drogon I've always thought that Gregor is the giant. But Hodor could be the giant as well, I guess. Although, Gregor is know for being freakishly tall, like abnormal. Well Hodor is very tall. |

I really don't think the giant is Hodor. Bran has too much of a conscience to completely take over Hodor like that.
