Thumbs up Interaction (Worldcon) publishes programme

For all of you wondering what exactly we will be doing at this year's Worldcon in Glasgow, we are pleased to announce that the provisional programme schedule is now available online for download in PDF format
from http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/program.htm.

Key events include Guest of Honour events at 2pm on Friday (Jane Yolen), Saturday (Robert Sheckley represented by Gail Dana) and Sunday (Christopher Priest) and Fan Guest of Honour events at 3.30pm on Friday (Greg Pickersgill) and Saturday (Lars Olov Strandberg); the premiere of GamerZ on Thursday night; the Interaction play Lucas Back In Anger on Friday night; the Masquerade on Saturday night and the Hugo Awards Ceremony on Sunday night. The programme also includes over 500 further hours of panels, talks, video and anime presentations spread across some 15 parallel streams and featuring several hundred programme participants.

While this schedule reflects Interaction's best intentions at this time, changes may occur at short notice due to unforeseen events and programme participants appear subject to professional commitments. Those intending to attend for specific items are urged to check before making travel arrangments. Updates will be posted to the Web site as available.

Thanks for this David

Do you have any idea whether the planned Firefly "Serenity" movie will be previewed at WorldCon?

I didn't read it fully but I didn't see Harry Harrison there...I read somewhere today that he's supposed to be there as well.

Sorry, just read the full list - he's there. My bad.

Seen Harry Harrison on the HTML list.

I definitely need to read more about the events - even though I'll be most of the time behind a table, I figure I'll need a couple of breaks over the 4 days.

There is an impressive list of attendees.

I'll have to pack 1 bag for clothes and 1 bag for books to get signed ha ha

There are some strange event names on there, though - Filk and Kaffeeklatsch?

I wish I could be there. However, I'd probably spend the whole time running around like crazy trying to catch a moment with all the many authors that will be attending.

Filking is very cool. From what I understand, the term came from a mispronunciation (deliberate or not) of "folk", as in folk songs. Filking is singing songs with science fiction and fantasy themes. Personally, I've never been present for live filking, but I've heard some tapes. Some of the songs can get really bawdy, but they are generally very clever - imagine a group of people like those of us who frequent this forum, musically inclined and writing songs about the characters and situations in the things most of us here read and watch. Has possibilities, eh?

from what I've learned about language, this would be an informal gathering over coffee or some suchlike thing. Not sure what it would be at a con, but probably some derivative of the above.
