Re: Book Hauls!

GOLLUM ... Grimus is an insane romp. You'll come out of it feeling quite off balance or more off balance than usual. Bloody Chamber is good but then again, the lady is always good. They've just published a book of her fairy tales that are quite unlike any other you've read.

Famished Road is also a good read. I just read his Arcadia. Gently surreal. And of course the good doctor and his very different other half are people you really to have visit.

JD ... have fun with the books. Antares wrote Dua Keli Selubang too, only he was Kit Lee then.

it's PlayTrade, the new online trading platform on Play.com. The purchase/payment method, terms & conditions are the same and some prices especially the classics are often cheaper. Anyways for your future reference. Good luck.
Ah! I missed that one. Thanks again! I've now ordered that book, the game I wanted and a birthday present for my boyfriend. His birthday is July 18th, so unless they're very slow, it should make it in time.

If they're as good as you say, this will not be the last time I shop with them.

Yes, I saw those fairy tales but was unsure of whether to get them, now I'll probably purchase that too...Blame it on the cat..

Re: Book Hauls!

I've been buying a bit lately & I cant remember if I've allready posted here, so sorry if I'm doubling up but here's what I've bought over the last month or so: Russel Kirkpatrick's Fire Of Heaven trilogy, Books 1 & 2 of Glenda Larke's Mirrage Makers (I'll get book 3 as soon as its in store), Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern (which includes: Dragonflight, Dragonquest & the White Dragon), Flashspec Volumes 1 & 2, plus a couple of harder to find ones that I'm particularly pleased about: Legends Volume 1 edited by Robert Silverberg & A Dragon Lovers Treasury of the Fantastic edited by Margaret Weis... The last one is such a beautiful book, I havnt read any of it yet but its so nicely presented that I almost dont want to read it, lol...

Heh I know what you're referring to. While Ms. Kostova is entertaining with her historical details but the adventure part is sometimes too Nancy Drew-esque. SHe also has a tendency to tip her hand all too soon and the spook bits are too predictable. I've dropped the book a bit (too busy at work atm and I tend to surf the web a while or watch movies after I reach home late )

Re: Book Hauls!

My package from amazon arrived today, but there are problems with my order from play.

I gave them my current address as my billing adress when I had only given a notice of change of address to my bank the day before, so I got an email from play, asking me to correct my billing address. I did so and then I got an email from them about an additional security check, saying that I had to call them, but trying their international phone number several times, both yesterday and today, all I get is a message telling me that this service is unavaliable right now. If they don't hear from me within 2 weeks, they will cancel my order.

Does anyone else in here have experience with this kind of thing?

When I changed my card details I was requested to call as well, I think it's just for security reasons, like, they need to hear from you. On the phone they would just double check your billing address and that's all. I never encountered any problems with their phone number. May be you have to keep trying, or, if still not available send an enquiry from the help desk (on the order detail page).

The only problem I had was lost shipment, in that case you can claim - also via help desk - after 21 days, they'll guaranteed to send you a replacement.

A member posted another bookshop's link, looks quite good too:
The Book Depository - Cheap books with free delivery worldwide !!!

Now I finally got through. I do hope it will get sorted out then, so the birthday present can arrive on time.

Here's irony for you, though: I just popped by Vibes & Scribes, not looking for anything in particularly and can you guess what I saw there? God Bless You, Mr. RoseWater at about the same price as I had found it at online. It's just so rarely that I see books shops having his books in, but they had a few titles of his. Yeah, I bought it.

I also bought Join Me by Danny Wallace. It says that it's a true story, but I'm not entirely convinced. It looks interesting, though.
