| Re: Book Hauls! That's the original published edition (of which I'm quite fond, I must admit); the uncut version was released in 1991. Any further printings of it that I've seen tend to have an indication of this on the cover. However, it's still debated as to which version is "better"..... |

| Re: Book Hauls! Yes, though I've only read the uncut when it first came out, so it's been quite a while.... It flows a bit more smoothly, and some of the motivation is clearer; some of the character development is smoother, and there are other differences. But I can see why some parts of it didn't make it into the original edition, considering the period. |

| Re: Book Hauls! Last Saturday I picked up Gateway by Frederik Pohl and Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner. I saw about 10 books on my to read list, in one shop (Canty's), but wasn't that cashed up. Besides, I still have a few books backlogged. If ever anyone comes to Canberra you have to check out the 2nd hand book shops in Fyshwick. There's 4 or 5 concentrated within 100 metres, including an SFF bookshop. But the best one is a shop called Canty's. They don't seem to have a website unfortunately. |

| Re: Book Hauls! I have to ask, as a fellow antipodean and former mexican, where Gollum gets his books. Do you get them all new (as your bookcase pics suggest) or are there some fave 2nd hand haunts local to you. And is the SFF bookshop in Swanston St still there (can't remember its name), or Minotaur books? And I guess a further question has to be, after scoring 18 books in two days how the Zarkoff do you find the time to read them? |

The SFF Shop run by Justin in swanston street was Slow Glass books. Justin closed down but has a shop front now in Northcote, presumably as a result of cheaper rates in that area. Minotaur is where I get the bulk of my books and IMO the best SFF run shop in Australia having been to it's counterparts in WA, Adelaide, Canberra and Sydney. Cheers.... ![]()

I'd be interested to know if you have any fave 2nd hand haunts. I only get down there occasssionally and I don't have much time away from the fam so I would like to target the best ones. Sybers I know, and the one run by Syber's husband in Elsternwick. Cheers... GF... ![]()
