Tigan is a classic IMO. My favourite work by Kay, let us know how it goes. Master & Margarita is weird but cool. Never read Sunny Side..

Re: Book Hauls!

Read both Tigana and Margarita a long time ago but did not have copies of my own. The edition of Tigana I received is the 10th anniversary one so it's quite lovely.

I'll probably read Master & Margarita again soon. It's definitely wierd but not as wierd as Heart of a Dog. Bulgakov has a way of turning everything slantwise.

The Sunny Side is AA Milne's collection of tales for 'Proper Grown Ups'. He'd apparently tried to publish it before and been told it'd never sell since he was known for having written the Pooh tales. Sunny Side is turning out to be a lot of fun thus far and you can clearly recognise the folk of the Hundred Acre Woods in the characters.

I have that edition, too :-) Though I think Tigana is actually not nearly my favorite Kay. I think Lions of Al-Rassan and A Song for Arbonne tie for that honor :-)

AH..allow me to qualify Fionavar Tapestry is my fav Kay work followed by Tigana. I've never read "Lions" so I think it's one to add to the list.

Now that I've finally found out what IMO and IMHO stand for (all hail Google) ... I think you'd like Lions of al-Rassan GOLLUM.

I think you should definitely add it to the TBR, GOLLUM! It has very little magic, though, compared to Tigana.

I must admit, I tried reading the first Fionavar book and just didn't get into it at ALL. I think I have trouble with "present-day" fantasy- ones that involve people from nowadays. So I had very little interest from the first in Fionavar.

Kay's next book, Ysabel, is also set in modern-day Provence. So we'll have to see how it goes!

Not a book, but received the latest issue of H. P. Lovecraft's Magazine of Horror in the mail on -- appropriately -- Halloween.... Has a large section on Lumley, and a new Chelsea Quinn Yarbro story....

Re: Book Hauls!

From Raman of Silverfish Books an early Christmas present. A hardback, illustrated edition of Carlos Ruiz Zafon's Shadow Of The Wind. It's an absolutely lovely book and I didn't even know there was an illustrated edition on the market.

Have just purchased the Finovar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay. A brilliant bargain, the three books for only $AU12.
