Re: Book Hauls!

I have finally bought GRR Martin's Game of Thrones and King Rat - China Mieville. I guess as the rest of you all seem to be reading these guys, I ought to make the effort some time soon.

Re: Book Hauls!

Well you are converting them, left, right and centre!

Just picked up a copy of Ancient Sorceries and Other Stories by Algernon Blackwood.

I imagine it will be a completely different style than what I am used to, leaning more to the psychic detectives, Cat People - fear and tensions, tales of horror...

I like getting books for free. Justin Holt sends me his book called Payday. Not that anyone of you have ever heard of Justin...

Re: Book Hauls!

I just got this anthology entitled Mythic, edited by Mike Allen, that I was really interested in reading after seeing the talent assembled participating in it in some press releases. It features work by Catherynne M. Valente, Ian Watson, Matthew Cheney who is one of the truly outsanding souces of opionion on fantasy, so I'm interested in seeing his fiction), Theodora Goss, Joe Hadleman, Sonya Taffe among others.

Great news

Mind you, I found King Rat to be weaker than either Perdido Street Station or The Scar... but a bit better than Iron Council

Re: Book Hauls!

I got quite a lot today - most of it with speculative fiction elements, but those which are placed in the general fiction section. Some highlights include:
King Rat by China Mieville
The Thousandfold Thought by R Scott Bakker
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
Blindness by Jose Saramago

I have just bought SilverThorn today by Raymond E, Feist. Not exactly a haul but a damn good read.

Two books arrived in the mail today (from entirely different sources): The Alchemist's Daughter by Eileen Kernaghan, and a signed copy of Crown of Stars by Kate Elliott.
