| Re: Book Hauls! OK a small haul today... The Adventures Of Amir Hamza (complete and unabridged) - Musharraf Farooqi *Those who don't know this is the major EPIC of the Islamic world in the way Homer's Sagas may be argued to be in our Western culture. The first time the entire text of 1,000 pages has been translated, so I'm really looking forward to reading this! The Ghost Stories Of Edith Wharton *Latest in Wordsworth's excellent collection of Tales Of Mystery and the Supernatural. American Notes - Charles Dickens *Hooray, never thoguht I would see this book on the shelves in Australia (other than via special order) but here it is. Cheers.... |

| Re: Book Hauls! That's OK mate. Add about 14 years to that. You're right though, to amass a major collection like mine it doesn't happen overnight, it takes quite a bit of time and of course financial resources. In many ways for me the chase in locating a hard-to-find book can be as fun as actually reading it once you've got it. Maybe PM me Althain's Warden as I don't want to go too far off topic on this thread. Cheers.... |

| Re: Book Hauls! Yes, that's what actually inspired me to chase this book up. Dickens In America starred veteran character actress Miriam Margoyles and was excellent! I've also got pretty much all of Dicken's other works but reading his travel diaries adds another level of enjoyment. |

| dark and stormy knight | Re: Book Hauls! Stopped by the Salvation Army Thrift Store yesterday and---: OPERATION FUTURE edited by Groff Conklin. This 1955 Perma Books paperback shows it's age if not well then at least loudly. Plenty worn (and stained ) but with 17 stories and 2 short novels from what I consider a very exciting era presented by on of sf's most distinguished editors was a true bargain at 49 cents. Great cover painting by Robert Schulz, an artist I never heard of (but should have!).ESCAPE TO EARTH (six novelets) edited by Ivan Howard ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS 12 STORIES FOR LATE AT NIGHT (not sure who the editor is, hmmm...) Always good stuff in these things. THE REASSEMBLED MAN by Herbert D. Kastle. According to Clute/Nicholls, Kastle is known mostly outside of sf but the cover blurb assures us this is a "science-fiction classic about the earthling who made a fantastic bargain with creatures from another world." |

| Re: Book Hauls! Quote: Thanks for the info JD. This may come in useful as my other half is wanting to find some interesting fantasy series to read. She don't like Gemmel or Feist much and has most Eddings books. She seems to be enjoying Hothouse at the moment which tho SF does read a bit like fantasy I suppose. | |
