Re: Book Hauls!

Dont you guys have a yearly national book sale in all bookstores ?

Late febraury/early March is the time for us here.

This year i didnt forget.

The Turnaround by George Pelecanos cost 40 kr instead of the price that is 225 kr for a new Hardcover.

Second hand :

Hawkwood's Voyage by Paul Kearney
The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
The Angel of Pain by Brian Stableford

In Australia we have end-of-year stocktake sales incl. books where a lot of the bargains may be found. That's over Christmas/New Year in Melbourne and most places in OZ.

Another Kearney hey!....

OH I checked my earlier Kearneys and I've got The Way To Babylon and A Different Kingdom, neither of which I've had a proper chance to check out.

I was lucky with my Kearney new book cause it is the first book. It would have royally sucked if i got the second book before the first Monarchies book

The bad news about the reprinting of that series made me alittle sad so i also got Forsaken Earth from my brother. 3 unread Kearney are good to have !

Our University here in Perth also has a yearly book sale, Connavar. I've only been once, there were too many books I wanted to buy but couldn't.

Was very sorry to hear about your car Nesa.

Re: Book Hauls!

I've gone almost three weeks without buying a book. Well, maybe two...

Trying to go three months.

My to-read stacks are out of control. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I am a book reader, not a book buyer!

That's an interesting haul Nesa, hope it brings you some respite...

The Okri I can say is good and I was wondering about Yukio Mishima, seeing that book in the shop but never having read his work before. It will be interesting to read your thoughts on that book.

Re: Book Hauls!

2 more classics from Bookmooch. From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne and The Voyage of the Space Beagle by AE van Vogt
The latter quite appropriate as we're celebrating 200 years of Darwin's birth

My problem isnt that my TBR pile is big. It is not big.

Its that these days im too good finding good authors that fit so well with my taste. I havent read an author i thought was not good and not worth to read again for long time now. 10-15 new authors in a row that jumped from the library books to my book hauls.

Thats not healthy for my wallet. Even when you are done with new authors for a while a favorite in your bookshelf demand new readings. Getting 3-4 PKD, a few Heinlein,C.S Forester etc

Re: Book Hauls!

Friends Of The Public Library had one of their quarterly book sales this weekend, and today was 50% off day. Translated --- paperbacks 25 cents, hardbacks 50 cents. Walked away with:

Sleepwalk by John Saul
Blood Farm by Sam Siciliano
Wildwood by John Farris
Cat's Cradle by William W. Johnstone
The Whole Shebang by Timothy Ferris (trade paperback)
Far Horizons edited by Robert Silverberg (hardback)

Re: Book Hauls!

AARP does taxes for free at the library so while waiting for our turn I wandered over to the book sale and grabbed one last item:

WONDERFUL LIFE (The Burgess Shale And The Nature Of History) by Stephen Jay Gould
