Re: Book Hauls!

I recently found a signed first edition of the Orson Scott Card novela , "A War of Gifts."

I also picked up Mainspring and Escapement by Jay Lake. I highly recommend both.

Ah tell me what you think of After Dark GOLLUM ... I liked it very much indeed and thought it much better than Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman, which I'd read just before.

Re: Book Hauls!

I don't buy too many new books anymore but after I finished my laps at the mall this morning I rushed over to Freddies and picked up 326 pages of super-science fiction written by one of the best practitioners in the field: The Trouble With Aliens, short stories by Christopher Anvil, edited by Eric Flint. Finally, no more fumbling through old sf mags hunting for these gems.

I got cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson and still haven't gotten around to reading it. I am amazed at how long this thread is.

Re: Book Hauls!

i bought Running With The Demon by Terry Brooks. I've read and loved his Shannara and Landover series' and was rather pleased to find more Brooks books I haven't read lol.

Also got Acorna's Search by Anne McCaffrey, cos I read the first 4 Acorna books and thought I may as well carry on, and The Fledgling Of Az Gabrielson by Jay Amory, just because I thought it looked good

Re: Book Hauls!

And of course GOLLUM you have to tell me how you go with After The Quake ... it's quirky and I loved it.

Firework-Maker's Daughter is pretty good too though my heart belongs to Pullman's Clockwork for some reason.

I didn't know about Clockwork. Are there any Pullman books you haven't read?..

When you say quirky, most of Murakami's work is that isn't it?...There seems to be plenty of chat that he could be headed towards a Nobel prize, that would be something wouldn't it!

Cheers...

Last night I got....

Return Of The Crimson Guard - Ian. C. Esslemont *Malazan novel.

Highly recommended, Gollum - all sorts of details dragged into the light of day.
Be prepared for a good few definitions of words that you already know, and you might expect the average JRRT reader would as well, though (chafed, fiddlesticks, uplands) - but I suppose it's difficult to strike the balance for all the potential readers of the book.
