Re: Book Hauls! Where did you get that idea, Lobo? Poe, like many writers of his generation (as well as before and after) wrote quite a lot that was published anonymously, and only traced to him long after his death. Such discoveries are still happening with various writers, including people like Le Fanu.....

Re: Book Hauls! Well, the 2-volume Unabridged Mark Twain arrived today -- that's one heck of a lot of Twain (nearly 2400 pp. worth)! And the Complete Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, edited, with extensive notes and ancillary material, by Professor Thomas Ollive Mabbott -- again, a great deal of material by and about Poe I've not seen, including variant versions of poems, very early verse, material on apocryphal verse, as well as on works by his siblings... I've always known this was a notable edition, but this had no idea it was this impressive....

I picked up HP Lovecraft Haunt Of Horror #1-3- Richard Corben *This is a graphic novel and for thosw who don't know Corben is an artist who amongast other things was credited with the memorable album cover of Meatloaf's classic Bat Out Of Hell. He produced a similar series on Poe wihch I would like to purchase. I also picked up a copy of George RR Martin's ( & Lisa Tuttle) Windhaven. This is the only book by him I haven't got other than his Wildcard series which doesn't really appeal to me. | |

Re: Book Hauls! No; though it contains one heck of a lot, it doesn't even hold all of his fiction ("The Mysterious Stranger" is not here, for instance), let alone his essays and the like (though some sketches and humorous essays are included, as I understand it).

Re: Book Hauls! I love Mark Twain - in small doses. I have quite a bit of his stuff. I recently got a collection of his "science fiction." I haven't read it yet, and I don't recall where it is. In some box somewhere. His misanthropy starts to get me down after too long. That dude makes Lansdale look like a humanity-loving hippie. Ever see the clay animated masterpiece, The Adventures of Mark Twain? Wow. ![]() Absolutely brilliant - made my top 100.

Re: Book Hauls! Lobo -- the attenuated conversation might be better held via PM rather than throughout the book hauls thread.... And yes, I've seen that little film, DD; I agree. They knew their Twain quite well, and it's a wonderful little film that moves from the comic to the eerie with considerable grace.... That line at the end of the "Mysterious Stranger" segment (a condensation of something Twain says toward the end of that piece), "There is nothing but the Void and you; and you -- are but a thought", along with the visuals, can still send a chill down my spine....
