Just don't blame me when all other fantasy seems less fantastic.

It's a totally surreal experience - challenging and rewarding.

It may be a classic, but it's not to everyone's taste. Where did you get the Franklin book? I love her writing, but she's not come up with anything new for too many years. Can't find anything about her on the internet either.

Re: Book Hauls!

Eddison's book isn't to everyone's taste, no. It is written in a prose style one hasn't seen much since the seventeenth century, which often takes some adjustment for modern readers. But if that doesn't throw you, you're in for one of the most marvelous reading experiences in all fantasy literature. It's a personal favorite of mine, and I've read the book probably eight or nine times in the past couple of decades (perhaps more). My suggestion: relax, let the splendor of the prose sweep you away, and you'll likely find yourself greatly enjoying the experience....

Re: Book Hauls!

I recommend it.

It was more challenge than any other fantasy i have ever read at first but after the difficult first couple of pages its a good read.

Although lobo since you arent used to reading fantasy i would recommend simpler fantasy first. More modern and straight forward. Or classic fantasy thats easier to read.

Worm is one of the best books I've read from the last 100 years. I have a few editions.

It is a rather unique experience -- or, rather, Eddison's set of four books is a rather unique experience. As you are somewhat inclined to Lovecraft yourself, you may know that he thought quite highly of this one, as well....

Re: Book Hauls!

some feist(thanks to the forum for that and no don't tell me a thing)

sophocles
tolkien's letters specifically for the tolkien trivia quote thread (look at what this place is doing to me! sheesh!)
richard feynman(non fiction for research)
werner heisenberg(also story research)
a new copy of the hellbound heart as my pit bull vader decided to have the last one for breakfast.
true crime story: the murder of polly klaas(again research, this time for my horror slash slasher stuff)
c*** by inga muscio (a feminist book)
some garth nix( the disreputable dog is my kind of bee eye tee see aych)
a couple of the sword and sorceress series
some poppy z. brite
some isaac asimov
some ray bradbury (vader eats books. I think it's because he sees me hunched over books quite a bit so books must be good. unfortunately it seems 'good' to a dog is synonymous with 'tasty')
the neil gaiman death trilogy
the 300 graphic novel
the Sin City graphic novel
a book called the bone doll's twin(just started it. seems nicely dark)
another copy of animal farm(in retropect I should have named vader 'bookworm')
the dark tower series
some crumb comics

that's all for today.
