Yes Asimov was a real character wasn't he. Having read so much about him, studied him in depth i got to really love the guy you know, and amassed a huge collection of his works from novels to magazine entries to poems , even the robot stories on audio tape!
All since gone, sold off. I even used to be on a asimov forum, the asimovians. Wonder if its still going!

Well then you are in for a treat, I think Storm of Swords is the best so far in the series.

And thanks for reminding me, I need to get the second book in Malazan...

Funny thing is, as hailed as Asimov is I've never read any of his work, well I think I'll put Foundation to the top of my pile.

Any views of these will be greatly appreciated.
I enjoyed the ideas and the main character in The Man in the Maze.

It was my first Silverberg and it was a good first book.

Have you read Conan before ? I hope you dont make someone else version of Conan your first read instead Robert E Howard.

Re: Book Hauls!

Found some great books at Half Price yesterday:

Hello America
War Fever
Millennium People - JG Ballard
Sons Come & Go, Mothers Hang in Forever - William Saroyan (I can't believe I found this - a 1st edition, on the regular shelves, for only $10; one to replace the copy my dog tore up years ago)
The Continental Op - Dashiell Hammett

Re: Book Hauls!

My Erikson books arrived today, and I found that House of Chains is actually a hardback. Whoops. I thought I'd ordered a paperback. Still, to say I only paid about £7 for it...Now, to decide whether to be neurotic and track down a paperback (one day, not now) or just be happy with a hardback copy...

There was a books sale, so I got Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and The Pillars of the Earth, which I've already read before, but want to own.

Re: Book Hauls!

Received in the mail a copy of Cross Plains Universe, ed. by Scott A. Cupp and Joe R. Lansdale, a celebration of the centennial of Robert E. Howard's birth, made of up stories by Texas writers (whether native to the state or not), and featuring people like Neal Barrett, Jr., Ardath Mayhar, Howard Waldrop, Gene Wolfe, and Michael Moorcock....

Re: Book Hauls!

I just got Aegypt by John Crowley, and Doorways in the Sand by Roger Zelazny. I'm also waiting for Wild Seed by Octavia Butler to come in the mail. I'm collecting some books to bring to a two week out of state training session for work. I don't know how much extra time I'm going to have, but I figure I should go prepared.

Re: Book Hauls!

Today I went to my local Borders book store while the missus and daughter did a bit of shopping (yawn). Now I don't usually go to this branch as the fantasy section is way too small and low and behold they did'nt have what I wanted, Which by the way was Gardens of the Moon by Erikson and/or another book by Janny Wurts (which I've forgotten the name of but is the first book of her lastest story).
So after much deliberation, I finally settled on some fantasy masterworks by authors I've never read before, they are

Michael Moorcock - The History of the Runstaff (The Jewel in the Skull,
The Mad Gods Amulet, The Sword of of the Dawn and The Runestaff).

Michael Moorcock - Elric ( The stealer of souls and Stormbringer ).

John M. Ford - The Dragon Waiting.

I was tempted to go for Rudyard Kipling's addition to the masterworks, but thought that three was enough for now.
