Re: Book Hauls!

I made a pilgrimage to Toronto, just to check out the SF and Fantasy bookstore, Bakka. I wasn't disappointed, and returned with:
- All three First Law books (Joe Abercrombie)
- To Ride Hell's Chasm (Janny Wurts)
- The Secret Countess (Eva Ibbotson )
- The Well of Ascension (Brandon Sanderson)
- Curse of the Mistwraith (Janny Wurts)
- Swan's War trilogy (Sean Russel)
- The Alchemist's Apprentice and The Alchemist's Code (Dave Duncan)

I read it about 20 years ago and liked it at the time. I've not read it since and it's generaly considered as something of a classic, so it will be interesting to read it again after such a long time. Are you a fan?

Re: Book Hauls!

Oh yes, Gollum.
I've The Saga of Pliocene Exile, Intervention and the Galactic Milieu series, plus the Rampart Worlds series.
I love her style, and the effortless way she creates 3-d characters.

Well as I said that book and series is highly regarded, one of the reasons I decided to add this to my collection.

Re: Book Hauls!

Last night I picked up PB editions of....

Mr Baggins Part I - John Rateliff*
Return To Bag-End Part II - John Rateliff*

*These books publish for the first time the original manuscript by Tolkien of The Hobbit; dredged up after 50 years along with orginal sketches and what looks to be a very well researched series of books on Tolkien's classic story. I've been looknig forward to checking these out for a while now and I think JD and Teresa may have already got their hands on a copy, so better late than never.... So far it looks good and I'm already discovering several things I didnt know about the orginal script.

The Antipope 1st of the Brenford trilogy but! can also be read as a stand alone it is a loosely knit term.(Brentford Triangle , East of Ealing & Sprouts of Wrath) being the others and yes there is four but it's still a trilogy.

Re: Book Hauls!

Tomorrow, our local library starts a sale on books they want to get rid of. The sale lasts for a week and the books are cheaper every day (but, obviously with gibber chances of the good ones being taken) - I want to go and see if they have anything good.

No, this is the first I've heard of them, although they sound like books I would very much like to have.

I can't even look and see if they're available over here because amazon.com is down at the moment.

Re: Book Hauls!

Yes, Teresa, they're available; they only came out about a year ago (or less), and sold rather respectably, I believe, despite the (apparently) limited appeal.

And yes, Mr. G: I do have them -- pre-ordered when I first heard about them; but I've not had a chance to do more than browse through them so far. However, even from that, I've been able to tell their worth, and I don't think you'll be at all disappointed....

Back with 7 books: "The Neutronium Alchemist" by Peter F. Hamilton and 6 books by a couple of writers who write YA fantasy under the pen name "Saga Borg", due to curiosity. It turns out that all 6 are from a series of 12.

I felt a bit odd, having to inform the librarian that 7x20 is 140 - not 160, as it was 20 DKK pr. book (or 2,65 euros, if you will).

I expect to go back there some other day.

BTW: what do you call the kind of sale where the books get cheaper each day, in English? We call it a Dutch sale here.
