That is ok with me. After finishing Erikson's Gardens of the Moon, I am ready for a book that actually gives you some background info up front.

You probably should, since you like to keep up with Australian authors. According to the book jacket, he lives in Adelaide.

His first book, Foundling starts out rather Dickensian in tone -- which is how it drew me in -- but from there it goes off into fabulously original territory.

Here's a link to his website:

Re: Book Hauls!

The new Dean Koontz Odd book just arrived - yay! I shall read it tonight (sorry Frankenstein, again you are cast aside for another book - maybe tomorrow?). I really hope it is charming and wonderful like the first book, although I'm betting it will be more formulaic like the other 2. Either way I'm excited to read it, and had to beat my oldest daughter off with a heavy stick this morning so se wouldn't abscond with it to school.

Teresa - I almost got away without checking out the Cornish website. Now I feel compelled to track down not only the first book, but maybe even the second as well. Thanks.(sarcasm not intended to be dripping)

Mythology by Edith Hamilton
I love the old tales, the ones that all modern fantasy finds it's roots in.

Even though the plot of The Lamplighter began to develop along rather familiar lines near the end, it was more than redeemed by the bizarre setting and quirky characters. (The series has a hefty dose of worldbuilding though!)

Sounds like it's my cuppa. Besides, I know who to blame if I hate it
