Re: Book Hauls!

Todays haul -

Alexander by Steven Pressfield. I really enjoyed some of his other work so I thought I'd give it a go.

The Wolf Sea by Robert Low. The second book of the oathsworn (vikings ), hope it's a good as the first was.

To Ride Hell's Chasm by Janny Wurts. read some good review posts in the chrons about this one and decided to give it a try.

Knights of Dark Renown by David Gemmel. Had it, lost it (Grrrr), bought another copy.

Knights of the Black and White by Jack Whyte. Don't now anythying about this guy, but the topics about the origin of the Templar Knights and the first crusades, Mmmm interesting.

I've got Eternals, Watchemen, Crow BUT not yet Nightmare Factory IF you're talking about a graphic novel rather than the book??

Seems like you're catching up to my collection Cat....

Nice haul there, Mr. G. On the Bowers -- a very nice collection, though I might have picked some others by the same writers as better examples. However, a very nice selection, and a few things in there that don't get reprinted that often....

I figured you would have something to say on the Bowers book. Frankly I hadn't read several of the stories he has there so I took a punt in the hope I had made a good pruchase. Sounds as if I did OK then?

By the end of May I hope to have pics of my library up here and an inventory of my collection. It would be great if you could check through it in case you think I'm missing some really obvious goodies from my haul or just as a general opinion on what I do have.

Cheers....

Re: Book Hauls!

Was lucky enough to pick up a very fine copy of the 1990 Mandarin edition of Robert Aickman's Wine Dark Sea today. This is my first Aickman collection; I'd previously read his stories only in anthologies.

Re: Book Hauls!

I just did my usual thing of popping into Waterstones and coming out with more than I expected (but this seems to be me in a nutshell, I also went into Whittards for some more tea and ended up coming out with three boxes of different teas ) But Waterstones seems to sell older horror books for low prices, which I can't resist:

In a Glass Darkly -- Sheridan Le Fanu
The Halloween Tree -- Ray Bradbury
Wonder Tales -- Lord Dunsany
Nightmare at 20,000 feet (and other stories) -- Richard Matheson

Re: Book Hauls!

Nomadman; Hoops: very nice, those. I've not seen a copy of Wine-Dark Sea for ages! And Hoops: I think you'll find each of these very rewarding....

I just (and I mean just -- it was deposited on the doorstep as I was clicking onto this thread) received a copy of The Poetical Works of Joseph Addison; Gay's Fables, and Somerville's Chase, ed. by the Rev. George Gilfallen (1859). Very nifty book, and a very nice copy... all for a song....
