Re: Book Hauls!

Another discount sale at the bookshop! Bought Destiny, Book three of Trinity by Fiona McIntosh. I also got a copy of Priestess of the White, Book One of the Age Of The Five by Trudi Canavan. I haven't read any of her books, so after a quick look at the first page and a couple in the center of the book, decided to give her stories a try. I also bought three children's books as birthday gifts. Deltora Quest 3 by Emily Rodda, 'The Worst Witch To The Rescue by Jill Murphy and The Butterfly In Amber by Kate Forsyth.

Oh no, its not that chopper, I know for a fact that Poirot is one of her finest creations; in the same vein as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous Sherlock Holmes stories and they are classics to boot. Its just that as weird as it may seem, I haven't read *anything* out of SF&F genre, the only one exception being a few stories of the latter; Doyle's cold eccentric detective (which I borrowed from a friend). Even when trying classics I specifically look for (and read only) ones which has at least some bit of fantasy/supernatural/weird element to it, even though its obvious that in doing so I'm filtering out a lot of good stuff (of Shakespeare's I've only read A Midsummer Nights Dream and The Tempest), but I can't help it. But this time I'll definitely give a few Agatha Christie's Hercule Piorot stories a try.

Cheers, DeepThought

Just picked up Anne McCaffrey's The Ship who Sang in a charity shop for only £1. Quite pleased with that.

Quite nice set, that. The Blue Star is by no means Pratt's best, but it deserves more mention than it gets. Not as complex as The Well of the Unicorn, but rather meaty, nonetheless. The problem is that it is also not quite as successful as a forward-moving story; it shares some of the same faults as Lindsay's A Voyage to Arcturus, I'd say... though both are very much worth reading.

As for the Davidson -- that one remains one of my favorites of his work, along with The Phoenix and the Mirror....
