Re: Book Hauls!

Got a couple more in the mail (well, three, actually....):

a duplicate copy of Strange Eons, by Robert Bloch
Echoes of Valor III, ed. by Karl Edward Wagner (pursuant to discussions about Kuttner's S&S in the Howard thread)
and (YAY!) a replacement copy of Always Comes Evening, a book of horrific and fantastic verse by Robert E. Howard (Underwood-Miller edition)....

Eh? You mean the cover art, or the contents? (Frankly, I find the cover art on this one quite generic and forgettable, but the contents are quite another thing....)

Just received Savage Heroes, ed. by Michel Parry....

Re: Book Hauls!

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself. I found Lian Hearn's Heaven's Net is Wide in a charity shop for only 49p this afternoon - hardback and looks brand new.

Re: Book Hauls!

Sounds good BUT never heard of Nictzin Dyalhis????? Where does this person fit into the grand scheme of SFF and what content and style do they write in? If worth pursuing can you recommend a good collection of their work?

I hate to say this, but... I wouldn't hold my breath. Pelan's schedule seems to be seriously awry lately, and it may be a very long time. (On the other hand, one can always be surprised.) I will, however, give kudos for beautiful editions to Midnight House/Darkside Press books, as well as for bringing some of the lesser-known figures from the pulps and the supernatural field back into print.

I personally am not a big fan of Dyalhis' work, but for those interested:

Re: Book Hauls!

Interesting link there j.d. I'd not heard of him either(wonder if he's in the huge Encyclopedia of Science Fiction)
I'd say a collection of his stories would go down well. Seems he may have been the first one to use the word blaster!

He may be; I've not looked through the thing since I had access to a copy at the bookstore I worked at a few years ago, and I wasn't looking up Dyalhis at that point.

I'm not entirely sure how well his work would go down currently... but, given that there's a certain amount of interest in the earlier sff writers (enough to make keep several small presses -- and PODs -- turning out their stuff), and that his sf is very much in the Burroughsian vein (though with something less of the verve and spark), they just might.
