| Re: Book Hauls! Gene Wolfe's the Wizard plus a few non fsf from Amazon (now that I've taken the plunge and ordered online, I'm hooked). Best deal so far was M. Scott Rohan's Hammer of the Sun, hard to find and bought for all of a penny (+P&P) |

| Re: Book Hauls! Well i don't want to go into too much depth on this thread, but I have to say I absolutely loved The Knight, which came as quite a surprise. I only knew of Wolfe by reputation beforehand, and despite having read testaments to his genius I couldn't help but expect the book to be a little trite, judging from the title and blurb. But it's fantastically written, with a first-person voice that perfectly balances the narrator's adolescent mindset with the reader's needs. For a fantasy it's a remarkably lean narrative, stripped of all unecessary digression, and is all the better for it. And the characters are more lively than just about any series' short of Erikson, despite having a fraction of the screentime. An instant favourite. |
