X&Y - Coldplay

Coldplay's new CD is out.

It's amazing!

Everyone get it.

This time it's not only about the music, the lyrics are ridiculously good!

As a guage for those who haven't heard the album in full, would you also describe the first single, Speed of Sound, as absolutely amazing? Where would you rank it on the play list?

Re: X&Y - Coldplay

I've been less than thrilled with the New Yorke sound of their last two albums - but I'm always all grumpy about music, aren't I?

It's not actually on my playlist, I got it to see what the hype was about.

Re: X&Y - Coldplay

Speed of SOund is a really good song, but not the best. I think they picked it as their first single because it sounds a lot like CLocks, and many people can identify that it's coldplay easily. As for other songs, my favourtie at the moemnt, would have to be Swallowed In the Sea, or Till Kingdom Come (Hidden Track) which was the tribute to johnny cash, or so I've heard.

Anyways, I hate when people say that all Coldplay songs sound the same because each one is unique, yet I'll end my rant. Though it really is quite an amazing CD.

But for a passing hear, they sound the same. If radio didn't announce it, I would never have guessed the last one I've heard was from another new album.

Re: X&Y - Coldplay

I think it's pretty terrible. I loved the last album, but this one is so weak it's depressing. Nearly every song has the same sound, the same formula, the same falsetto vocals.

I thought the single had a good chorus, but the rest was boring - too much like clocks, which I also didn't like very much.

Of the tracks, "Til kingdom come" is the best (though it wasn't actually written by Coldplay)... track 2 (sorry can't remember the name, I've been listening to it in the car ) is alright, but not great. 4 and 8 are also not bad. You can keep the rest.

And the lyrics are also very bad, on the whole.

My 2p.
