| Re: Favourite moments in the films? I love when Gandalf and Frodo are riding through the Shire in the cart, and all that beautiful pastoral setting keeps rolling past, so that you get a sense that it IS a real little farming community where somebody lives, rather than just a couple of streets on a back lot somewhere. I love Gandalf setting off the fireworks for the children, and the ship he makes out of pipesmoke at Bilbo's party.
I love the Black Riders, who all through FOTR just got scarier the more I saw of them, and Aragorn's fight with them at Amon Sul. Also Gandalf on the bridge (a favorite book moment which did NOT disappoint), and Boromir beginning to fall under the spell of the Ring up on Caradrhas, and Boromir's death scene.
In TTT, I love how beautiful Edoras is with the mountains behind it, and Gollum's schizoid conversations, and the ringwraith coming over the wall at Osgiliath (I don't care that Frodo and Sam shouldn't really be there at all -- I was glad of an excuse to visit the place). I love Arwen's vision of Aragorn's funeral. I love Faramir saying, "Well then, it is forfeit." (His delivery just breaks my heart.) I especially love watching the Ents tear Saruman's machinery and his dam apart.
In ROTK, the lighting of the beacons. Pippin's song. Gandalf and Pippin riding through the streets of Minas Tirith. All the so-called "false endings," yup, every one of them, and most of all Sam's homecoming at the very end. |
