| Tails of the Unexpected | The British Open - Golf, do you love it or hate it? In my youth I was a 1 handicapper who wanted to turn pro at golf. I know it's hard to accept but the answer is, yes I am to be good at everything. ![]() Anyway, I didn't quite make it in my golf career but I whupped all my mates on a regular basis as well as pinching their girlfriends. ![]() So, my only claim to fame was the Colgate PGA at St Andrews in 1979. I'd gone up there at the ripe old age of 21 to caddie for my local pro, Peter Highmoor, he didn't qualify so I went to the caddie shed and sat in a queue. Hopefully someone would come in looking a bag carrier. One person was in front of me, a fat Scotsman with bad breath, anyway Gary Player, the legendry golfer came in and took him on. I sat there like an idiot waiting for a break. It never came! I think Player came second or third, so the caddie got a nice payday and I went home skint! Anyway, I can still play a bit so if anyone fancies a Chrons Classic then I'm your man ![]() For the purpose of the thread - I love golf. Last edited by Gary Compton; 21st July 2012 at 06:15 PM. |

| Dramatically tremendous | Re: The British Open - Golf, do you love it or hate it? I don't play it and I'm not at all partisan. That being the case: COME ON GRAEME!!! BRING IT HOME AGAIN! I think we'd all agree that's nice and balanced... anyway I watched Darren last year from behind my eyes, this year, I'm cheering Graeme on for a charge in the wind.... |
