Most romantic Sci-Fi novel you've ever read?

What, in your opinion, is the most romantic science fiction novel you've ever read?

*Please don't post about your favourite romantic fantasy novels, unless there is a significant element of sci-fi in them... thanks! :-)

If you don't mind stretching it over 8 volumes, then Kage Baker's series of "Company" novels might fill the bill. The cyborg Mendoza is in love with three incarnations of the same person, sometimes all at the same time. The series is a great read with or without the romance, but it does represent a major plot point. See the author's posthumous web site:

If you like space opera-style books, the Liaden books by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller are fantastic. They're the kind of casual adventure/romance/sci-fi that you can come back to again and again over the years and enjoy every time. I believe Anne McCaffrey once said that they held an honored place on her comfort shelf right above her bed.

Dean Koontz's Lightening was pretty romantic.

Just read time traveller's wife, which was romantic, and the book has more emphasis on the time travelling element than the film which was pure romance.
Mistborn has a nice little romantic relationship in it.

Oh yeah, no time travelling in the film at all!

Lois McMaster Bujold's Cordelia's Honour - chronologically the first two books in the Vorkosigan saga.

I rather like the romance later in the series as well (which would be a spoiler if you read CH so won't say more than that)

And second the Liaden books.

Not a novel but Robert Sheckley's short 'Pilgrimage to Earth' (AKA 'Love, Incorporated') is as good an SF love story as you'll ever find.

Re: Most romantic Sci-Fi novel you've ever read?

Justina Robson's Quantum Gravity series. I don't normally like too much romance but Robson's combination of sharp cyberpunk SF with elements of fantasy (but very much SF fantasy) and romance works very well.

As I say I don't generally like too much romance so I will mention the next two, though I didn't really like them for that reason.

Catherine Asaro's Skolian Empire series
Janet Morris's Kerrion Empire books

I've only read two of the first and one of the second but for me the romance was a little too much. However I think they are generally well regarded.

The most romantic one I've read is Replay by Kevin Grimwood.
