| Do you know this novel? I read this Science Fiction novel more than 20 years ago, but I'm hoping someone will remember it. In a dystopian future a cocky student attains a perfect score on a government exam, after being warned by his teachers not to. Unexpectedly he finds himself enrolled in a government school and established in a class I believe is called "Tech" and trained to an ultra-high level of scientific capability (I might remember that typical middle class citizens who scored normally on the exam were called "Est" but I could be wrong). He rebels against his new school and becomes involved in the lower class street racing circuit. He sells his fathers classic automobile and purchases a high tech motorbike that he uses to win races against the lower classes easily. He enters into an ill advised romance. This is almost all I can remember. I seem to recall that the world is monitored by psychic helicopters that harvest and kill suicidal people. I also recall that the unit of currency is called the fish, or at least that people gamble for what is called fish. If you have any idea about the title I would really appreciate your help. Thanks. |
