Fire near us

Not too near, thank goodness -- this is the next town over from us, about 18 miles. This is the Weber Fire, at Mancos, Colorado. 2500 acres was the last estimate as of several hours ago, with no containment.

Here's my Photobucket album, but most of the pictures are duplicated, sorry. PB kept burping and said it had all 33 pictures but only showed 18 of them, so I uploaded them again and then it had them all twice, and I can't find any way to delete except one at a time and that's a pain in the you know what. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20June%202012/

Here's my favorite, with the helpful sign:

Re: Fire near us

I know someone who lives in Loveland, so she's been talking about the fire too. I heard that 21 homes have been destroyed?

Hope everyone's ok.

Re: Fire near us

Yeah, that's the High Park fire -- it's running about 85000 acres now, I think. It's about 400 miles from us. Colorado's a lot of territory.

This one is up to 7000 acres now. No homes reported destroyed yet in our fire, although they are reporting one shed. If it jumps the highway or gets closer to the town, it's a whole new ballgame. It looks better from our side today, but it's not -- it's just burning more on the other side of the ridge from what we can see, and the smoke is blowing away from us now. They took the tanker planes away for something else today, but we're getting a high-priority federal management team in tonight. They're supposed to know what they're doing. I hope so.

That's terrible TDZ, keep safe, and let us know if that fire dies out. It's a shame, such a nice looking area is burning away so quickly.

Be careful my friend.

Ah. Blimey, didn't realise there was more than one!

Re: Fire near us

There's a new one up by Colorado Springs now, which is where my brother lives, but it's on the opposite side of the city from him. They have 11000 people evacuated, including one whole town! But it would have to burn the whole city of Colorado Springs to get to him, so I imagine he's safe for now.

Ours is up to 8300 acres now. Skies are clear here again, because the wind changed and all the smoke is going the other way.
