| Hello out there! Hi all, I'm just getting familiarized with this site, and I have to say I'm very impressed! Lots of good ideas and some very informative discussions to peek in on. I've made a contribution here, a remark there, and eventually I hope to provide some interesting reading material to anyone who might find themselves inclined to indulge my fantasy of having words I've arranged on paper read by others. Aside, at least, from my wife, who is more or less contractually obligated to shower me with praise. Or smile and nod! So, thanks for putting up an awesome website for me to peruse. Happy viewing to all! |

| Re: Hello out there! I'll read just about anything I can get my hands on; sf, f, cereal boxes if there's nothing else handy. I most certainly do long to write- one story in particular, and if I can manage to get it out of my head and onto paper then I'll be a happy man. Happier if I can get others to read it! My personal details: 36, married, in my fifteenth year of service in the US Army I enjoy a good story Also peanuts..but not the honey-roasted kind; honestly if you're going to bake them in a sugary confection then what's the point of callin them peanuts Oh, and I'm stuck on the second chapter of my story- trying to find a balance between exposition and moving the story along; it's a bit of a headache! Very excited to be here! |

| This world is not my home | Re: Hello out there! I tend to be Science Fiction almost exclusively. It used to be exclusively, but this place has corrupted me a bit in that regard. I'm rather surprised that no one else has been around to welcome you. This group is usually very good about that. You will find mostly intelligent and always congenial discussion here. The Mods won't allow anything else. Have you checked out the 75 and 300 word challenges? They are both found under the Aspiring Writer's tabs, under challenges. The 75 word challenge often has 50 entries or more and is held monthly. the 300 word challenge is held quarterly, and it has a tangible prize. Personal info: Married, pastoring the same church for 20 years, father of 2 grandfather of 4. |

| Re: Hello out there! I did throw my hat into the 75-word-limit contest; lots of good entries in there to read over. I'm working to get more involved in some of the discussions taking place, although I have to admit to a small bit of intimidation. Oh well, not much use being a wall-flower on the internet is there? No walls, you see. Yeah, I know my jokes are on a 1/10 funny ratio. But that 1...it's usually a doozy! Thanks for the welcome! |

| Re: Hello out there! Hi, Kaufmannp! Night owl here. Welcome. I'm fairly new here as well and I've contributed to the 75 word challenge too. I'll have to look at yours. In order to contribute to the whole forum, I've been going to the author list, the movie section, and other places. I've contributed to recommendation lists. I even braved to respond to a thread or two that hadn't been added to for a while. Don't worry about the funny ratio. I'm not very funny either. At least, not intentionally. See you 'round. |

| Dramatically tremendous | Re: Hello out there! [QUOTE=kaufmannp;1616089]Hi all, Aside, at least, from my wife, who is more or less contractually obligated to shower me with praise. Or smile and nod! QUOTE] Wow, you're still at that level of interaction with the other half, you need to spend more time here... At least yours is still reading, mine asked my main protagonist to go away months ago. (I'm being mean, he's infinitely patient with me...)Welcome to the chrons and hopefully you'll enjoy your stay. |

| Mad Mountain Man | Re: Hello out there! Another trick if you want to take in the whole forum is to use the "new posts" button (on the top(ish) bar with the search and other options). This will show all threads that have been posted to since you last logged in. I use this mechanism almost exclusively now. |

| Re: Hello out there! Welcome! You are at the right place the chrons here are very well read and knowledgable. Their advice has saved my reading life from the poorly written and mundane books out there. |

| Re: Hello out there! Thank you all for the welcome as well as all of your good advice. I've just hit my 30 posts and now I have to consider if I'm ready to put some of my work in the critique section. Big decision, and not one I'll take lightly. This website is now marked as a favorite and I usually visit it first thing in the morning, so look to see me on here quite a bit. So, most of all thank you for being here! You know..on the web and all! |
