June's Jublilant Journalistic Jaunts

OK, in posting this I regret that I have but one live to give for my fellow Chronners.

Just finished Meditations on Middle Earth. Slightly dated references in the book now, of course, but otherwise interesting perspectives on the Master and his creation.

Go Grimward, we salute you!

I'm hoping to get to (amongst others) the rest of Ray Bradbury's shorts, and Peter F. Hamiltons; the woman in black; and reread a bit of One day (yes, yes, I know) to look at how the unusual structure worked and see if I can crib...

Re: June's Jublilant Journalistic Jaunts

I just finished Katharine Kerr's Snare. It took two months. Granted, I was distracted by stuff, but I still couldn't get into it at all. It was an interesting story, an apparently Fantasy novel that was really Science Fiction (although the Author's note at the start was a spoiler on that point), but it was far too long with the same points hammered into me repeatedly, long journeys catalogued in meticulous detail, and a very dull climax. There was also a bizarre gay subplot which accounted for about two pages of writing in three scenes, didn't fit the character, and really seemed tacked on. (I wouldn't have minded if he was gay throughout, in case I'm misconstrued).
So, as it says above my avatar, don't.

This has been dealt with before elsewhere, but for future reference... it is the moderators who are in charge of beginning the monthly reading threads; GOLLUM specifically, and I believe he has been tied up a bit longer than usual. Also, there is a general tendency to let them go a couple of days beyond the actual ending of a month so that all the various parts of the world are on the same page, with a little leeway added.

It isn't quite a shooting offense, but... how does being drawn and quartered sound?....

Indeed.

Apologies to anyone who has posted here but for the reasons provided in the other June Reading thread, this thread is locked/closed primarily to avoid the confusion of having two June reading threads.

Apologies for not having gotten to the June reading thread earlier.

Cheers.
