Opening Scene

Horrible though that this is ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18241494 ... it sounds like an opening scene from a zombie novel/film and does give me ideas.

Re: Opening Scene

It does indeed sound like the start of a zombie story. Scary. They'll be knuckling down on that drug now, it's crazy.

Horrible. But morbidly fascinating at the same time.

Clamping down on drugs seems to give an essentially negative effect. The price goes up, the risk thrill of generating/distributing it goes up, the profit from distributing it goes up, and the belief that "if the guv'nment dunt like it, must be sumfin good" is reinforced. Even educating people to its potentially life-threatening effects doesn't seem to stop their fatal curiosity.

No, I don't have a simple, evident answer, that all the authorities seem to have missed until now. Think of it as evolution in action? I can, however, see that criminalising drugs generates criminals, rather than stopping (or even slowing) the drugs.

Re: Opening Scene

Horrible indeed, but although it might give people ideas for fiction, I don't really think it's a GWD matter, so I'm taking it over to World Affairs.
