| Re: Tournament v2.0 Nomination thread The contestants for the original tourney were... Jaime Mance The Greatjon Brynden Tully, the Blackfish Areo Hotah Sandor Clegane Qhorin Halfhand Tormund Giantsbane Robert Baratheon Jaqen Syrio Ser Addam Marbrand Lord Randyll Tarly Eddard Bronn Strong Belwas Brienne of Tarth The Lord o' Bones, a.k.a. Rattleshirt Ser Arthur Dayne Donal Noye Shagga Euron Oberyn Barristan Styr, the Magnar of Thenn The Mountain that rides Victarion Loras Khal Drogo Ser Garlan Tyrell Rhaegar Jorah Believe Wiggs when he says he'll randomize the pairings. He must have randomized the last tourney because the first round fights that stand out are Brienne vs Rattleshirt (these two would each have probably ranked 29+ in the field of 32 if I'd been seeding them) and Barristan vs Gregor (I'd probably have both of them as top five seeds). So you guys need to be ready to be disappointed when Eddard faces off against Jon or we see our two favorite scoundrels, Bronn and Sandor, fighting each other. Wiggs, you wanted me to get serious about my nominations and pare them down? If so, then I'd really like to nominate Lord Commander Ser Duncan the Tall, Lord Commander Ser Gerold Hightower the White Bull, Ser Lyn Corbray wielding Lady Forlorn (the Corbray family Valyrian Steel blade), Ser Harras Harlaw the Knight, Timmett of the Burned Men, Dagmer Cleftjaw, Qarl the Maid, Andrik the Unsmiling, Ser Lyle Crakehall the Strongboar, Ser Arys Oakheart, Ser Balon Swann (Balon took second to Anguy in the archery competition at the Hand's Tourney), Obara Sand, Rorge, all the Mereenese pit fighters that Dany's husband uses as bodyguards, Ser Shadrich the Mad Mouse, Grey Worm (his equipment and style would be a nice change), Ser Rolly Duckfield, Ser Osmund Kettleblack (I'd like to see his blood spilled, even by Rattleshirt), Mero the Titan's Bastard, Iron Emmett, Black Walder Frey, and Ser Robert Strong (formerly Ser Gregor Clegane, I think). I'd like to say that a Valyrian Steel sword makes almost anyone an automatic contestant. Eddard (Ice), Ilyn Payne (Ice), Randyll Tarly (Heartsbane), Lyn Corbray (Lady Forlorn), Dunstan Drumm (Red Rain), Jon Snow (Longclaw), Jorah Mormont (Longclaw), Jeor Mormont (Longclaw), Brienne Tarth (Oathkeeper), and Harras Harlaw (Nightfall) are the adult owners of Valyrian Steel. Even though Joffrey I and Tommen I both have possessed Widow's Wail, I'd not like to put them in the tourney. And I'd like to know if Hodor is really going to fight or if you're giving us Brandor (Bran on Hodor). Edit: By the way boys and girls, in this tourney of 48 or 64, there are probably only eight who could actually win this thing (and I think that's generous). The other names are just to make numbers nine though thirty look good for a while. So let's not harrass Wiggy about whether Nute the Barber, Dolorous Edd, or Arya should get the sixty-fourth and final spot... Also, here's some interesting trivia regarding the original tourney.... I will not use names so as not to prejudice you.... Only one contestant won a unanimous first round decision. He then tied in his second round match. As the judge, Wiggum broke the tie in favor of that contestant who went on to make the final four. Second Edit: Do we know if Rhaegar took one of the Valyrian Steel blades of the Targaryens to the Trident? Or did the Targs lose all of them to the Blackfyres? | Re: Tournament v2.0 Nomination thread Is there a way that we could sponsor a couple fighters each? So, then I would have a stake in whether or not "My" fighter is going to win. Kind of like fantasy football. If we do that I'd recommend a randomized draft so we don't get all catty deciding who gets to have the top couple seeds. It would also help keep it interesting for when we have less than stellar characters fighting... we would still push for the one that is on our team. |

Re: Tournament v2.0 Nomination thread viZ, exactly. I already know which two I think are in the finals. Tywin, I know which two I'd sponsor. How about the sponsor is responible for an account of how the match would be won by his/her contestant.... promotion. Could you write up a convincing argument for Sam over the Mountain? Or at least make it interesting? Or humorous? I might vote by how each sponsor could sway me rather on how easily I think Drogo could butcher Nimble Dick.

Re: Tournament v2.0 Nomination thread Boaz, we could definitely provide commentary to sway votes towards our fighter, but I think it would work out better if the sponsoring was somewhat random... just like with a fantasy football league, you end up paying attention to different players than you normally would because they ended up on your team. I have a feeling that if we just say "These are my two or three guys" - then we'll have ten people all wanting the same couple dudes. So, Wiggum gets the final list of characters, then we get a list of forum members that want to play, and he either assigns characters to us randomly or he assigns draft sequence to us randomly and we get to select them in the order of the random number we received. Big problem with letting us choose is getting everyone actually active enough on here to complete a draft. I think random assignments would be better (and again, it gets us interested in those "other" characters).

Re: Tournament v2.0 Nomination thread Wigg's if you get the list of characters together I'll handle assigning/drafting them out to the active members of the forums and from there it should be fairly transparent to the running of the tournament.

Re: Tournament v2.0 Nomination thread If this is going down, I want in. I would propose to put up Gerris Drinkwater, The Tattered Prince (of the Windblown) and Lord Berric Dondarion, (but only after he died twice, I think he was at his peak then)
