Apocalyptic Songs

The SFFC 75 word challenge genre this month was "post apocalyptic". What are your favourite "post apocalyptic" songs. Surely we can name at least 100! I'll kick off with my favourite, strangely time-signatured, prog-rock classic:

Apocalypse in 9/8 (Co-Starring the Delicious Talents of Gabble Ratchet) - Genesis

thanks johnnyjet - top song.

here's a list that has been prepared earlier, so you can stop racking your brains. Now, let us never speak of this subject again.

Re: Apocalyptic Songs

Hmmm, but I notice a couple of songs that are not included.

2 Minutes To Midnight by Iron Maiden (although technically this is before the end of the world, there are a couple odd titles in there that suggest a lead in to the end of the world rather than after...)

This Corrosion by The Sisters of Mercy (Not entirely sure whether this is a post apocalyptic song or not, but the video always suggested that kind of state)

And The Last Man on Earth by Alice Cooper (might have been a bit too recent for the list on Wiki)

Don't know if this counts but the song at the end of Dr. Strangelove deserves mention.

Re: Apocalyptic Songs

Many of the songs on that list aren't post-apocalyptic songs at all, someone has just taken a pedantic look at some lyrics or even just a title. For instance, according to Gabriel Here Comes The flood is about falling asleep, and Don't Fear The Reaper is about individual death, not the end of the world. Also, some of the credits are wrong. But here are a few not on the list that I think are about the end of the world (or our world, anyway).

Rob Dickinson - The End Of The World (unspecified)
Olivia Newton John (yes, really) - Silver Rain (pollution)
Simon & Garfunkel - The Sun Is Burning (nuclear war)
Lana Lane - Seasons End (global warming)

Prog rock has simply too many to list.

I'm reminded of a South Park episode.

I was also going to say that, but I think many people don't know that.

Clearly, we already have a winner!

Does Big Yellow Taxi count? Maybe not?

There's already several Dylan songs, but they missed A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall.

Re: Apocalyptic Songs

My partner and I were discussing a similar theme of cold war songs and couldn't get past 99 Luftballoons by Nena and Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood (which got missed in the wikipedia list).
