Hello SFF Chronicles

I've been watching this forum for a while, going through bouts of reading posts, then not looking at it at all for months. Thought it was time to actually get involved. I read sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and many, many other genres, but my preference tends to be towards fantasy. Authors I enjoy include Robin Hobb, Ken Follet, Robert E Howard, Frank Herbert, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, Daniel Quinn and HP Lovecraft. I have a nasty habit of sticking to old classics though, and not giving newer authors a chance (especially of late). I'm hoping to get some good recommendations from this forum.

Recommendations? I'm certain you'll get those, and if you followed them all you'd end up broke, with enough books to build a small house. The trick is working out whose taste runs close enough to yours that you can be fairly certain – well, have a fifty percent chance, at least, that you will agree with the suggestions.

Yes, getting involved is quite exhilarating. Not too wise, perchance, and little conducive to extended sleep or outside friendships, but interesting. And survivable.

Aye, enjoy it while it lasts cos the boss will be down from the attic very soon. He roasts newbie's on an open spit and some of the Mods have been known to tear at the flesh
