| Thar! That Blows. | Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? Quote:
He probably, in fact, could not afford that drink. The phrase is, I believe, "Land Poor," and his sister keeps him on a short financial leash. Great story, though. In case anyone thought that Wodehouse was just sitting around making schtuff up out of thin air. | |

| yes, I was born yesterday | Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? if we are going to have distinctions of posh then let me put forth a plea for "Yukon Posh" which I think sounds more distinguished than "Campfire Posh" and ranks social distintion amongst wildernessy types. Those who know how to camp know that one must catch one's own dinner. cook it on a smokeless fire and have a fine sized bed rock to warm one's toes on. Dishes are ether well seasoned cast iron, or collapsible tin. And it is the finest distinction in life to have a doe and her children wander through camp of an evening paying their respects. One should be up in good time to offer the sun a cup of strong coffee, heaven knows he needs it, and up late enough to have a lengthy philosophical discussion with the stars. |

| Thar! That Blows. | Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? "Yukon Posh." I've never heard the term before, but I like it. * Yeah, that's another one of my talents. It's a younger man's game, though, I think. Long gone, for me are the days of drilling holes to lighten a toothbrush handle, Gorp, and losing games of wit with bears who want my food. I once thought that ten days in the middle of who-knows-where, out of sight of soap or a delicatessen , was a good idea. At some point in my life, wilderness treks with naught gear for survival but the burden on my own back; gave way to well provisioned lakeside camp-outs, supported by heavy drayage. And a largish boat. The dividing line, between the yen for austere adventures and the comfort of relaxed invasions into formally designated resorts, is defined in ice. "How many tons of ice do we need to haul in to keep the beer cold, and the cocktails colder, for four days?" But I can still make a fire with my teeth, erect a tent at midnight in a hailstorm, and toast a mighty tasty marshmallow over a heap of smoldering buffalo dung. |

| yes, I was born yesterday | Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? buffalo dung is mighty pricey these days. and if you need that much ice, get dry. I like camping with my dad, he's Yukon Posh, and lets me be the spoilt princess of pinecones when we go. Came up with the term right off my head this morning after finishing White Fang, so it would rather surprise me if someone else had heard it before. |

| not sure if... | Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? I'm well posh, me. I was born in a Royal town, ya know. Home Counties represent! (course now I live in a pretty scummy area of Southampton for two-thirds of a year. People get stabbed and murdered in bins. Scary.) |

| Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? Portswood's not that bad. Now, if you lived in Millbrook, say, or Thornhill... Funny, though, how the poshest and most attractive names belong to the roughest areas? Millbrook, Lordshill, Merryoak, Thornhill, Paulsgrove, Leigh Park... |

| Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons? True, Mary, so true - whatever posh is :-D But it seems to be something desirable - a least for some :-) Well I perhaps better consult wiki than waiting for Gary Compton to show up :-) |
