Oh Karn, Karn, Karn: you're still not getting it. Jet don't mean posh. Just rich. It's how one pronounces the word 'money' makes one posh, even if one's experience of the actual article is rather limited. Its where one purchases one's designer gumboots. Things like that. One can be adequately posh on quite a modest budget, in fact.

I prescribe a course of P.G. Wodehouse ...

Or more than a few hundred dollars a month for their pets, barring serious illness or injury?

Posh isn't a word widely used here in the States; but it's one I am familiar with. We tend to equate it with snob or stuck-up, see.

One doesn't "purchase designer gumboots". One orders a new pair from one's own last at Lobbs in Bond Street...

Re: Who is the poshest on Chrons?

Only if one is a posh townie of course.

Country posh is a totally separate affair of flatcaps, rugged (not cheap but not designer as that stuff is only for show) wellies, tweed, walking stick and Labrador (or yellow retriever) - oh and owning mostly everything within the horizons view (and traipsing over it come rain or shine)

Ah the flatcap, and how it's worn (especially the tweed cap, the most difficult variety to have on your head without seeming to know it's there, or much worse, looking self-conscious): coal miner way, carpenter way, factory foreman way, farm owner way, farm worker way, racehorse trainer way, jockey way -- whether you take it off or keep it on inside the pub ... a library of information. But whether tweed or denim or corduoroy, whether wool or lightweight cotton (but, oh please, never leather) and regardless of colour choice, it must have a real press stud ...

I think you'll find that your aunt is a Dame, not a Knight.

(I expect that getting this all mixed up will prove that I'm not posh. )

Oh, I agree. I was once bought a drink in a pub in my home town, by the scruffiest well-lubricated lout you ever did see. He was wearing a tatty old Barbour, a pair of moleskins that looked as if they'd been used to put out a barn fire, a Tattersall check shirt with a frayed collar, and a pair of old Hunters with the buckles missing. Turns out it was actually Hugh, Viscount Lowther, now the 8th Earl of Lonsdale, owner of about half of Cumbria...

I nearly turned down the drink, too, as he didn't look as if he could afford it...

yes the title is 'Dame', instead of 'Sir', but the process is still called being 'knighted', not being 'Damed'

I have two of those things! I'm halfway to aristocracy.

So buying the first pair of wellies that fit from Fergusson's Army Surplus is beyond the pale ?

So as forecast (by me), I've proved I'm not posh.

That's a relief.

Oh, I'm not posh either. My side of the family is a bit distant from the Major side. Pity, the publicity could go a long way to getting a young aspiring writer noticed.

It's a shame you haven't a book coming out, given the upcoming Falklands' anniversary.

(Or perhaps not....)

Well, let us not be hasty. The Yorkie story is 40 years old. Jung and the Great Granny are long since dust to dust. Grannie's descendants have become progressively less posh, generation by generation.

The Ladies of the family are still known to exhibit Style and Grace in the face of adversity; namely in putting up with the men in the family. The best efforts of our women have managed to imbue us with some ghost of a sense of gentility; but we have an age-old, genetic predisposition towards the brash, and the stretching of the boundaries of good taste.

Well, to be more candid, we're a bunch of bloody anarchists. At least we know how to use the correct fork, and open a bottle of wine when it hasn't a screw-cap
