Arc - New Magazine from New Scientist

Just got an announcement email from New Scientist.

http://www.newscientist.com/arc

The blurb in the announcement said:

Arc explores the future through cutting-edge science fiction and forward-looking essays by some of the world's most celebrated authors - Margaret Atwood, Stephen Baxter, M. John Harrison, China Miéville, Hannu Rajaniemi and Alastair Reynolds.
These are combined with columns by thinkers and practitioners from the worlds of books, design, gaming, film and more - Leigh Alexander, Simon Pummel, Paul Graham Raven, Adam Roberts and Bruce Sterling.
Edited by Simon Ings, author of acclaimed genre-spanning novels The Weight of Numbers and Dead Water, Arc explores the endless vistas opened up by today's science and technology and the possibilities these raise for the future.

Well, I just bought it, as I want to enter the competition. £5 seems a bit steep for a magazine, but whatever. Also got a mention on Radio 4 http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today...00/9698905.stm

Re: Arc - New Magazine from New Scientist

Seems kind of strange to me such an ultra empirical publication would branch out into fiction and opinion.

Looks interesting though, if overpriced.

I heard about this on Alastair Reynolds' blog, Approaching Pavonis (http://approachingpavonis.blogspot.com/ ), where he mentioned that he's got a story in the launch issue. He also made the OMNI reference...

An interesting branching out!

I'm going to hold on until they spawn a fantasy title for us hard-core scientists that love our fantasy with the sword and fireball rather than the q-drive and raygun.

thats interesting. Used to read Omni as a kid. Went back years later to find my mother had thrown the whole collection out. Picked up the first 5 issues for a fiver on eBay last year. A real 1970s nostalgia trip. They were great. Very glossy production by Bob Guccioni who owned Penthouse with first class authors.

Will it the book side talk about actual science fiction being written today ? Not to predict future kind of articles.

Im interested in SF writing mag.
