Chrons Connectivity Problems.

I'm getting a lot of timeouts connecting to the Chrons and have been for about two weeks. Anyone else suffering similar problems?

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

I've had recurring problems, but not -- touch wood -- today.

EDIT: You know what just happened, don't you...

I've now switched my laptop on and it "cannot find" chrons. My phone has no such problem.

No problems here; sometimes a bit slow pulling up the front page but that's about it and even that is probably more likely to be my connection.

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

For several weeks now whenever I log in to the Chrons everything sort of freezes for, I don't know, 20, 30 seconds or so before I gain control of the pointer again. After a while it clears up but initially it happens everytime. The horror site I frequent doesn't do this.

Exactly my problem, and it can do it when swapping between threads, on occasions.

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

Hmm no problems here and I access the site on my phone (across the phone provider data plan, and via wifi when at home), my desktop (hardwired to my router) and this netbook (on a free wifi provided by a store / cafe)

None of those 3 have given me any issues accessing the Chrons, recently or otherwise.

A bit of a mystery it seems....

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

Strange - never noticed any connectivity issues here.

If anyone is having problems, it may be worth clearing your cache, or else refresh the homepage a few times, just in case there's an old file somewhere being called up by your browser that no longer exists - as that will cause hanging.

I know I moved chronicles a couple of weeks ago to a different server, so it's possible some people will have ISP's running old DNS records - in short, they are trying to send people to the original server rather than the current one, which would cause problems. However, not sure if that will actually be happening - though is possible.

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

And just down the coast from Boneman, I've had no problems at all lately.

One thing I've got, which I set up a while ago when I did have some problems, is CCleaner set to run automatically when I switch the computer on. This clears out most of the accumulated rubbish that collects every time you use the computer, and also clears the cache. It tells you how much it's cleared out, as well - it's quite a surprise to find that a 3-hour spell has collected 168 Mb of Temporary Internet Files...

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

That CCleaner, pyan, when it clears the cache thingummies, does it get rid of stuff one might want to save, like passwords? (I should hate to be locked out of the emergency-chocolate cupboard in the Staff Room...)

Re: Chrons Connectivity Problems.

There's a list of options that you tick (or don't tick, as the case may be) when it loads. It'll keep the options you selected last time, so you don't have to do it every time.

(just checked) One of the options is "Saved Passwords", which I've left unticked, and it hasn't removed mine...(touch wood!)

You can also manually tell it not to ditch cookies from certain sites that you like to stay logged on to.

Or it did, last time I checked. That reminds me, need to clean the windows boxen...
