I know, that's why I've been watching the series backwards. Alien 3, then Aliens and finally Alien.

Alien Ressurection was just too weird to see again. Great special effects, and Ron Perlman was in it but, man, it's so bizarre.

re: Prometheus Trailers.

Just watched the longer trailer. It really shows a lot of promise. I just hope the film can live up to the expectations being generated.

Probably a lot to do with director Jean Pierre Jeunet. He has a fairly distinct style and loves to work with shadows and textures. I rate him fairly highly but I think this film was one of his poorer offerings. Check out Delicatessen and City Of Lost Children for some of his better work.

I find its best not to see it as a sequel but as Jeunet and Wheedon doing quality fan fiction. Lot more fun that way.

Yes, I agree that's probably the best way

Yeah it does appear like it might show more of the Jockey alien than the classic aliens for most of the movie, but it should still be awesome! We can't expect it to match Alien & Aliens but I'm hoping it will be up to the good standard of the third. The background certainly looks like it will make sense with the first in the series.

I'm moving this to the Alien & Predator forum where there are already at least two threads:

Alien 5 - plot, cast, director?

edit:
Ridley Scott promises 'tough' Alien prequel
New Alien film will be a prequel

Cinematic-ally, I would agree.

Narratively speaking, how can it be anything other than The Thing from Another World ? Or a re-telling of Alien? I'm looking for something more original. Will it be that?

Re: New Prometheus trailer!

Director-ally speaking, the Ridley Scott said that this movie is focused on the space jockey alien, not the aliens we all know and are a little creeped out about that he usually shows. So it ain't a retelling of Alien. I see it as he is expanding his universe.

Re: New Prometheus trailer!

Dave- I thought you were calling me your ally in all things cinematic just then! But I do see what you mean, yes. But a modern film that's essentially a 50's SF contact short story has to be better than an SF-as-excuse-for-stunts-and-effects film that the genre seems to have become in modern Hollywood. If not exactly original, it should at least be thoughful.

For me, Alien is one of those few films where the world should unite to agree that there should be no sequels, prequels, or anything else.

In a prequel to Alien, shouldn't the ship be run by a ZX80 linked to a telex machine?

Ha! Ha! You make a valid point though. It looks like the ship has avatars. It was bad enough when Enterprise was meant to be a forerunner of Star Trek.

Ah! But Aliens was so good, and yet so completely different, that I forgave James Cameron.

True. I'll go and see it anyway, I'm such a pushover.

They still look a little... invasive... parasitical?

That horseshoe shaped spaceship is the one that Nostromo found. So, there should be some story to tell beyond the stunts-and-effects.

The last time I was so excited about a movie release was for The Fellowship of the Ring. I can see myself going to the cinema multiple times to see this.
