I work retail thread

Maybe I'll be the only one.

I had a customer today loose her phone within our store.

Finding what we actually carry can be hard enough, finding a small phone is a task of epic proportions.

Two people tried on the side of the store that I don't work on, then she came back to me because I had helped her with some items. After a few minutes I realized the cause was a bit hopeless going through the demise of our store the day before Thanksgiving.

But, she was nice, and a bit in distress.

I got a couple of my coworkers to stand in the areas that she thought she might have set it, got her phone number, then called it in hopes one would hear the ring.

It was answered quickly with, "Rite-Aid, are you looking for your phone?"

Different store and a block down.

Re: I work retail thread

I work in a pharmacy and 2-3 times a week this happens.....

I answer the phone and a very irate customer on the other end starts kicking off because he/ she hasn't been contacted to let them know their prescription is ready to collect.

I take the customers name and check our records - nothing on the system.

I say to the customer - and you handed your prescription in at our branch in the tube station?

The customer practically shouts YES down the phone and follows this with a few choice comments about the unbelievable ineptitude of the staff he is having to deal with.

I say - Would you like their phone number?

Re: I work retail thread

I escaped retail hell about 10 years ago, after 10 years of servitude (dang it, this could have been a much better 75 worder on redemption)and the main thing is stick the smile on your face, keep it there, go out the back store and kick whatever you need to - but not another staff member or customer; generally frowned on - up and down the store.

Then go back and smile some more.

And I'm a people person and I like customers.

Think on the bright side, no matter what you work at after 10 years of it has to be an improvement.

Re: I work retail thread

I work in retail. *sigh* I work in the photography lab/ home entertainment area. It is becoming more and more frequent that I class a good day as a day when no-one submits photos of their genitalia for processing.

Thankfully I don't get too many nasty customers, but I do find it quite frustrating when you get people show up on close and then ask a gazillion questions, phone their husband/wife to double check 3 times, and then expect you to call another store, even though they are also closed before deciding they don't want the thing anyway and now you still have to clean your machines, and bag up the till and you don't get out till 30 minutes -which you don't get paid for.

But then you just have to smile and suck it up and be thankful that you have a job. Right? *sigh*
