I'm sorry to say that I, for one, don't use a Google account. I know Youtube is technically supposed to be one, but, I had it since before Google bought them out and I've never linked it to Google.

Google does have a large team of raters to manually review and weed out low-quality websites and spam. I doubt very much chrons would ever fall into those categories.

Brian, to be honest, I've pressed it a few times now, but I don't have the right details to go any further; I wonder how many of us use a google account in the uk? Might be me being technologically illiterate, though.

No worries - I appreciate that only a minority of people will have an active Google account - the + button is set up soley for those people, rather than try and encourage chron members to sign up to Google's data collection service!

I never see the Google+ button, even when I'm signed into my google account and refresh. I see it on other sites, but not here. Any ideas?

It appears that ad-blockers also block the +1 button, which may also explain the mysterious lack of the button on TEiN and alchemist's work PCs.

I think the placement of the button on Chrons is the reason why it gets blocked. I'm not sure of the specifics, but it you look where the button is placed on sites like Engadget (or, indeed, any other site that shows the button), you'll probably notice that it's in the middle of a content block, rather than in the header.

Most ad-blockers (I, for example, use the Adblock Plus Chrome extension) allow you to create filters for sites to block only certain ads, or disable ad-blocking for that site altogether.

Meh, adblockers are evil - most online publishers are struggling enough as it is without people trying to kill basic revenue streams.

Applies to sites that don't bombard users with ads, and such sites should not exist - but basic advertising banners shouldn't be blocked - it's just sending the message that only large corporate multinational online publishers should rule and that the small publishers should die. Meh, I'm a cynic.

I only use pop-up-blockers. Strange ideas will seed themselves from adds I've found. Plus some of them are really entertaining.

I had to smack my head in stupidity. I completely forgot about adblocking.

Here is an exception rule adblock plus users can add to their lists to turn off adblocking on this site:
