Goblin Moon Available on Kindle -- now

So after dragging on and dragging on so I thought it would never happen, we uploaded the file last night, and things have moved swiftly ever since. The 24 hours for the US, the 3-5 business days for Europe and the UK ... not so much.

When I looked at 4 in the morning, which was about six hours after we uploaded in, there it was on amazon.com. And then at 9 am it was on amazon.co.uk (Could have been earlier, but I didn't check earlier.)

It's there! On Kindle!

GM in the US

and

GM in the UK

And at such advantageous prices, too:
$3.99 in the US
£2.94 in Great Britain.

Even if you're not going to buy, follow the links and have a look.

For those of us without Kindles (short-sighted I know) -- is it out in any other ebook form, Teresa?

Not yet, but soon, I hope. I was surprised, though, at how many different devices there are that will allow you to read Kindle books. Ipods and all sorts of other things.

None of which I have, either.

Re: Goblin Moon Available on Kindle -- now

You can get apps for your computers or phones and access the Kindle store. Which is what I plan to do, as I read my books on my phone, having been pleasantly surprised to find this was much more workable than I thought when I first tried it with a purchase of Name of the Wind.

Anyway, one more new Kindle book to add to my collection now, cool! Any plans on releasing it in other formats, like PDF or ebook, to make it accessible on things like Nooks and iPhones? I've been contemplating branching out from the Kindle for publishing, but am not so certain of the formatting that results so as yet have held back, hence would appreciate others' thoughts on such conversions (or even experiences, if anyone has tried it)

Anyway, congratulations, and I look forward to reading this after I finish up my current Elric re-reading!

Re: Goblin Moon Available on Kindle -- now

Smashwords will allow me to publish the book in many different formats, including the Nook. I'm reluctant to try it by myself, without a knowledgable friend looking over my shoulder the whole time to provide tech support.

Having imposed on Jennifer and James to such an extent in preparing the Lulu and Kindle editions (although they never acted as though they felt imposed on or exploited, bless their hearts), I need to see if another close friend is willing to help with Smashwords, and if she is, find out when her schedule will allow it.

I hope you enjoy the book, Tom.

Re: Goblin Moon Available on Kindle -- now

Got it purchased, decided I might raise it up the queue to before I finish re-reading Elric, but was too tired last night and ended up just going to sleep. But will start it soon!

I'll maybe take a look into Smashwords and see if that might aid the transition to other electronic formats, thanks!

Today and tomorrow then it's a weekend, today and tomorrow and then it's a weekend - got to keep chanting the mantra....

I believe Smashwords has a guide on their website that walks you through the process of conversion and uploading.

Be warned, though: From what little I've seen, and more heard, the quality of the formatting of Smashword editions is frequently less than impressive. In the end, the onus is on the author to put in the extra effort to have it as professional an output as possible.

I use Smashwords. I converted my book ages ago, I seem to remember it taking a while to do, as you have to take out all the formatting and make it look as simple as possible, but it wasn't difficult. I'm just trying to get my American tax number thingy now so I can get my dosh.

And my copy is now sitting happily on my Kindle (and my phone and my Kindle) No idea when I'll read it...

Re: Goblin Moon Available on Kindle -- now

I started it a few days ago, and have so far found it to be nothing like I thought it was going to be - I don't know what I expected - but it feels fresh, different and uniformly excellent. I'm really enjoying it.

There's a scene involving a number of pistols that made me giggle like a village idiot.*

Re: Goblin Moon Available on Kindle -- now

I agree with just about all of that, Perp.

Just a small comment, though, which given that this is a review of the Kindle version, may be unimportant. The book cover shown is that from the book's initial publication. Is there any way you can replace that with the current cover?
