Some really good word counts coming in today, I think pats on the backs all round. If one of does not reach the 50,000 mark by the end of the weekend, (Moonbat) there must have been a massive disaster.

Re: nanowrimo 2011

Make that the start of the weekend. I have done it Yay, whoop whoop Hoorah!

I am really pleased, but I only just made it. Can you believe that i finished my first draft and it came to exactly 50004 words? I know that'll be cut down as soon as I edit.
The whole thing has been a great learning experience. I've been coming here for years and I have never got round to writing an entire novel (if 50000 counts as a novel) yet now I've managed a first draft of 50004 words in just 18 days.

The process has been brilliant. I can't say how much knowing Perp's and Thatollie's word count has spurred me on.

My story started out as stright sci fi, but by chapter three I was being sarcastic so I changed it to a sci fi comedy. There are scetions where the plot doesn't add up, and bits where I know I've left stuff out, or put in stuff I don't want. But the journey (for me as writer not for my characters) has been really exciting. There were bits I got bored writing and then a chapter later I was loving it.

Yay. I am really really happy. I'm also really excited by the challenge of editing. That'll probably wear off by Christmas and it'll stay as a second draft forever (I seriously hope not, this could be the start of becoming a real writer).

I wonder if I even have time to whip up a 75 worder for this month's challenge. But for now I am one happy Moonbat.
You could say I've over the Moon and going Batty

Re: nanowrimo 2011

Way to go Moonbat! Really pleased for you.

It really is quite an experience and pleased that you enjoyed it so much.

I'll let my thoughts out as soon as I finish! (Whenever that might be)

Congratulations once again.

It sounds thrilling lol The comedy sounds like something I would read.

I'm not sure if I will make it.

Re: nanowrimo 2011

I just started joining today, and I only managed to write 2000 over words. I don't think I can make it. According to the site, I need to write 4000 words every day for the rest of the month in order to hit the 50k mark. I think, for me, my goal is to hit the 20k mark and I will be satisfied.

Re: nanowrimo 2011

Go for the 20K, or even 25K if you start to feel ambitious. The spirit of the month is to challenge yourself, not destroy yourself. But it'll serve as good practice for next year, and you'll have a full month next time around and probably a few writing buddies. If you need a buddy, my profile is on one of the pages of this thread . . . I think.

Re: nanowrimo 2011

Just cracked the 50,000 words target, so really quite chuffed. Got a little bit further to go before the story/novel is completed, but it's definitely on the home straight now.

Way to go, Moonbat and Perp!

Make sure you get a good margin for error, or at least verify as soon as it's possible so you can write more if it doesn't count all your words! I had to write an extra 600 last year to make up for the difference in my count and theirs. But you guys rock, and have all the time in the world, so that will be fine. Good job!

Re: nanowrimo 2011

magin of error? Ah
I'm only 4 words past the point, and now I'm worried that it wont make it.
Oh well, if they put me at 49404 I'll just have to add a musical number

Re: nanowrimo 2011

Well, you have ten days to come up with the singing, dancing finale.

I thought I had an extra 200 words last year, and when I posted to verify it, I was 400 short! That turned out to be because Open Office thinks that quotation marks are words. But, typical for me, I was finishing on the last day and had to hurry and come up with another 400 which was 600 just to be sure.

You're in great shape -- congratulations!

Re: nanowrimo 2011

I have been writing in open office. So, on the advice of TDZ, I copied the file into Word and did a word count.

49,360 words.
I haven't made it.
How annoying.

So now I have to find somewhere to add 640 words. Maybe one of characters can develop a stutter

Re: nanowrimo 2011

I always find OpenOffice is pretty compatible with the NaNo validator - it's never been more than about
ten words different, but I know other have other expierences. Plug it into the validator see what you have
you can validate it again if you don't have enough. Word can also not be compatible. (wonder if it depends if you use single or double marks ? I use single ?)

I put in all my restarts (now numbering 4) and have 63,000 words apparently lol

It's probably cheating but I've got a new goal to get my first Joe and Tim ready for a
competition so I need to get working on it.

Re: nanowrimo 2011

Where is this validator thing? I can't find it.
Am I just being dim? or is it hidden?
