Lightbulb I need a good story

Hello

I am an indie game developer. I am going to build a free game in first-person shooters genre something like Doom, Halo, etc.

What I am asking for is a good story for such a game. Can you help by telling me what novels or stories that is based on a single protagonist in science fiction setting that is full of action and fast-paced encounters?

Are you sure Doom had a story?

Really, if you want to base something on a genre, you should read at least a few basics of the genre first to get an idea of what sort of ideas, concepts, and characters, you're dealing with.

Someone recommended Neal Asher's Gridlinked to me a little while ago, it doesn't quite look like my thing but it sounds perfect for this. Described by the author as James Bond in space.

I'm not sure about shooters, but lots of books have tons of sword, knife, and hand-to-hand action.

E.g., Caine from Heroes Die (very very violent, if that appeals), or Druss from Legend.

Guns often don't work too well in books. Authors are likely to contrive a universe without guns, or too much clever weaponry, since action is boring if characters are too deadly. Hand-to-hand is more gripping. Either that or the gun always gets kicked away, or is just out of reach, hence the nail-biting struggle.

Re: I need a good story

Sorry foe not participating a long time ago. I was busy doing my studies.

Anyway, I will not use a written book or novel as a basis of my game. Here is my idea:

The Weather Forecast declared that a strong storm will hit the fictitious Ridgebourne city within 22 hours and evacuation process will begin in 5 hours. But things became worse when the storm began to threat the city and will hit within 10 hours. So the evacuation speed increased. But the worst thing happened when the storm hit the city with strong winds and heavy rain. Everything was normal despite the velocity of attack until the rain changed and became red. After falling for hours, the rain stopped and the clouds very quickly disappeared. The city roads and houses were red. But something very strange happened. The people of the city became savage. The basic instincts awakens especially of hunger. The people didn't loose their minds but their main mental efforts is how to eat. They also eat the weakest of humans like the children if necessary.

One of the survivors was Captain Graffam Silverberg. He was an officer in the Navy. He was in his lab doing some research when the storm strikes. He tried to get out his shelter but he changed his mind and stayed.

He tried to contact any survivor he could reach but the com device showed no sign. He was suffering the danger of starving due to running out of food. After a week, suddenly, he received a distress call from the other side of the town. The call was from a scientist whose name was Jarrard Orange who claimed that he discovered a cure to save humans. the scientist described his address to the officer and asked him to hurry.

The officer prepared himself to go out. He took some weapons, ammo, armor and other stuffs. He rode his Humphrey and directed towards the scientist residence. The officer faced many dangers but he managed to overcome them and succeeded in getting to his target. He quickly, entered the house and met a group of scientists. But the surprise that he discovered a conspiracy against humans.

What do you thing of this idea?

Another topic to discuss is the conspiracy itself. Which is better: alien conspiracy or human conspiracy or both? Do you have a good idea for such a conspiracy?

Sorry for may bad English.

Guns can work well if it is a book about war, generally if everyone else has a gun, and it works best in a large firefight.

Re: I need a good story

Sounds a bit like Fallout - with the crazed hungry peeps running round like those feral ghouls and supermutants. Is the main part of the game going to be him trying to get to this Orange guy? Or is that the lead-in to the game? Are there many side-adventures? Is it linear?
